The Visual Arts
The visual arts are art forms that create works that are primarily visual in
nature, such as ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, design,
crafts, photography, video, film making and architecture. All other arts, while they
may also be visual belong to the Performing Arts category. The traditional as well
as the foremost form of visual art is drawing, painting and architecture. Great
artists rose from these categories of visual arts.
Week 1 Objectives:
1)review the most basic concepts of visual arts. These are the concepts and
theories of shapes, and colors as well as engage in the basic imaginative drawing
exercises
2) to identify the various visual art and applied art forms.
3) Rationalize on the various schools of the visual arts according to their social
and historical antecedents.
4) Begin building up a Digital Art Folio
Activity 1:
This activity will usher and test the learners of the basic knowledge, perception
and spatial organization of basic primary and secondary shapes. In a piece of
oslo paper, using a gel pen or marking pen do the following steps:
1) In a landscape orientation draw a rectangle across the paper from
edge to edge.
2) Above the rectangle draw five triangles of equal sizes and lined up
horizontally.
3) Underneath the rectangle draw a fish inside a circle.
4) To the left of the circle draw an oblong, and to the left of the circle
a pyramid and a trapezoid adjacent to one another.
5) Above the pyramid draw some clouds.
6) Go back the upper portion of the paper, draw small circle beside
each triangle, and a small square above each triangle.
7) Within the rectangle, draw the Philippine flag, a heart, a bird and a
flower and a bear.
8) Lastly, color each shape accordingly. Use any coloring material
available. Note: black and white are not colors.

Week 1 Activity 2: Color Theories
this activity will refresh the learners on the theories of color. By knowing that:
1) White is not color. It is the absence of all colors.
2) Black is not a color, it is the presence of all colors
3) Any color has no color of its own. It is the light that gives color to
it.
4) ROYGVIB and Color Wheel limited classifications of color. There
are more colors outside these classifications.
Now, do the following:
1. Get a watercolor and a medium round paintbrush or a small flat
paintbrush.
2. Using a pencil Draw a rectangle in the middle of an Oslo paper. The
left extreme of the rectangle must me heavily colored with Indigo and
the extreme right region of the rectangle must be heavily colored
with yellow.
3. Wait to dry the colors a little bit then wet two brushes. One for indigo
and the other for yellow.
4. Swipe the brush allotted for each color towards the center of the
rectangle until the two colors are combined in the middle.
5. What color have you produced in the middle?
6. Is that color classified in the ROYGVIB and the Color wheel?
7. Do this same procedure with the following color pairs:
a. Red and Green
b. Yellow and maroon
c. Aqua blue and yellow green
d. * you can do several sets of exercises in one oslo paper
8. Put your work in a brown folder along with other required work in
the first activity.
Art Advices:
1. Never soak your paint brushes n any liquid more tha necessary.
Soaking it even in water can damages or weaken its adhesives.
2. Use your load / data for researching on arts more than you do
with social media unless you have an unlimited data access.
3. Copy the stye of other artists and find yourself ending up
developing your own style.
