BENEFITS OF RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

INTRODUCTION

The need to do something for recreation is an essential element of human biology and psychology.
Recreational activities are often done for enjoyment, amusement, or pleasure and are considered to be
fun. Leading an active lifestyle is good for us. If we always participate in regular moderate exercise, we
can expect to enjoy numerous health, physical, and social benefits.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this module, students should be able to:

1. Acquire knowledge of different recreational benefits.


2. Appreciate the benefits and value of physical activities.
3. Provides all kinds of social, emotional, and intellectual benefits.
4. Develop skills in improving physical as well as mental health.

Topic: Physical Activity

Physical activity can be at any intensity, from a simple twitch of a muscle, to an all out sprint. For
practicality, physical activity can be viewed as a from sedentary behavior to vigorous intensity activity.
The broad categories are sedentary behavior, light activity, moderate activity, and vigorous activity.
Below are the examples of activities at each intensity:

Sedentary Behavior Sitting, lying
Standing Standing still
Light Physical Activity (LPA) Slow walking, shuffling around the house
Moderate Physical Activity (MPA) Brisk walking, jogging, light swimming, stair climbing
Vigorous Physical Activity (VPA) Fast running, fast cycling, sprinting

Physical Activity can:

1. Reduced risk of heart disease and stroke


2. Reduced risk of developing high blood pressure
3. Prevent some cancers
4. Reduced of becoming overweight
5. Reduced of developing diabetes
6. Have a better bone and muscle development
7. Improved muscle flexibility, strength and endurance
8. Improved quality of sleep
This can also help:

1. Encourage social interaction


2. Improve concentration and learning
3. Increase personal confidence and self-awareness
4. Reduce feelings of depression and anxiety
5. Enhance self-esteem
6. Improve quality of life

LEARNING ACTIVITY

Activity 4.1: In knowing the different intensity of physical fitness, which of this is the most beneficial
to you? Which activities require more concentration than the others?

Assignment 2: Submit a video clip of your performance of each exercise. Add another exercises that
are not mentioned here that you think are also part of those classified intensity. Your video should
not be less than 3 minutes but not more than 5 minutes. You can submit your assignment in my FB
messenger or unc mail.
