1.0 SCOPE

To set standard in making concrete duct bank as required by Saudi Electricity Company specification
and adopt full implementation on it.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITIES OF KEY PERSONNEL

3.1. Project Manager

 The Project manager will be responsible for the timely performance of all Duct bank installation
with compliance with the contract drawings, project specifications and HSE plan.
 He must mobilize the appropriate equipment and work force to do the job as required.

3.2. Site Manager

 The Construction will monitor the acclivities He must take note existing shortfall and problems
and discuss the same with the Project Manager.
 Corrective solutions must be identified and applied to compensate for the shortfalls.

3.3. Safety Engineer

 Conduct the safety induction course 10 all personnel involved in the work
 monitor and supervise the risk assessment
 ensure that necessary Permit lo Work is available
 the method statement and risk assessment are understood and
 understood, complied and applied in the worksite
 ensure that all workers are provided with sufficient information regarding workplace hazards
 and planned control measures

3.4. Safety Officer

 Supervision of equipment handling, transportation and disposal of excavated materials


 Ensure that relevant work permit is secured prior to start of work
 Ensure that equipment is operational and certified
 Ensure that all drivers/operators are qualified to operate the machines/ equipment
 Regular inspection and maintenance of the equipment
 Safety Officer shall ensure that necessary work permits are availed before the work commences
and that the work is carrying out in safe manner
 Perform other duties as Instructed by the safety engineer

3.5. QA/QC Engineer

 The QA/QC engineer will be responsible for the quality aspects of the works.
 He will assure that the QA and QC plan will be implemented.
 He will proactively coordinate with the site engineer and issue appropriate internal (Site
Instructions) when he sees that performance of works deviate from the approved.
 Inspection and testing activities shall be controlled by the QA/QC Engineer of DELTA through site
or by laboratory.
 The responsibility of the survey team is to distinguish the location of concrete duct bank so that
delta civil contractor will initiate for it. The survey team of DELTA contractor shall verify the data
accurately.

3.6. Site Engineer

 The Site Engineer will be in charge for the supervision and implementation of all Duct bank
installation as required in the specifications and drawing, especially in giving orders to Site
supervisors.
 Site engineer is also in charge for the preparation and filing of reports.
 The Site Engineer is responsible for concrete duct bank works.

3.7. Site Foreman

 The Site Foreman will be in charge for the supervision and implementation of various Duct bank
installation, as instructed by the Site engineer
 The Site Foreman shall also keep record of all work schedules work production and daily safely
issue

4.0 TOOLS AND EQUIPMENTS

 Ready Mix concrete, Mixer, vibrator, testing facilities and batching plant, etc.
 While using all equipment’s, necessary HSE plan and regulation to be adopted as per standards to
give more priority to the safety.

5.0 WORK PROCEDURE

5.1. Existing Services and Facilities

 Before execution of works, Delta survey team conduct investigation and verification of utilities
lying along the approved route.
 Delta survey team will take note all relevant utilities lying along the route and it will be included
in the as built.
 If it is necessary to reroute due to number of utilities lying along the route, delta will ask formal
approval from client and make a new proposal to divert the route.

5.2. Materials

 Portland Cement
 Coarse Aggregates
 Fine Aggregates
 Water
 Storage Materials

5.3. Execution

 Concrete encased duct bank is in accordance with National Grid Standard drawing and
specification and located at road crossings, factory and business entrances, along car wash
and/or gas-line stations, and other areas where vehicles cross traffic is heavy.
 Two spare conduits shall always be provided (PVC) Class 4 type for road crossing.
 All concrete duct banks shall reinforced with minimum temperature, reinforced is in accordance
to ACI-318.
 Delta civil contractor will excavate the area where the proposed concrete duct bank is located.
 The depth of duct bank shall be the same on the approved IFC drawings and subject for approval
of ministry through Right of Way.

 Dimensions may be modified to suit Right of Way or adjacent facilities when the spacing of duct
is less than the spacing shown on this drawing. Approval of SEC shall be obtained.
 After excavation of trench, delta provides proper shoring for the protection of soil from cave in.
 Typical cross section of concrete duct bank proper side clearance shall be maintained from the
edge of the duct bank by keeping center line of the PVC conduit of 200mm from the edge.
 Two layers of polyethylene cloth 150 micron shall be provided under duct before concrete
pouring for water barrier.
 When insulated bare copper conductor for grounding purposes is needed, the design engineer
shall decide criteria to be used for the project.
 The duct bank shall not be constructed on top of any existing power cable crossing perpendicular
to the duct bank.
 Plastic spacer for supporting conduit shall be installed as per TCS-P-104.03, Rev. 02. Reinforcing
bars can be used to support the PVC pipes conduit arranged in a flat formation.
 Duct bank shall be slopped to minimum 1:400mm towards the ends of the run for drainage. Duct
entry to control room shall be slopped to a minimum of 1:400 mm away from control room.
 The concrete shall be poured on a firm and level ground having a minimum bearing capacity of
140 Kpa. In case of Sabkhah area, a minimum of 150mm layer of compacted sand bedding shall
be provided before pouring the concrete.
 If necessary to interrupt the pouring for any appreciable time, as from one work day until the
next. The joint between the pouring’s shall be made as near vertical as possible and reinforced
with minimum temperature reinforcement in accordance with ACI-318. Dowel bars shall extend
into the concrete at least 600mm on each side of the joint. Transverse reinforcement at each end
of the dowel shall be also provided.
 Concrete shall be continuously cured for at least 4 days before applying curing compound.
Backfill shall only be done when the concrete gained a minimum compressive strength 17.2 Mpa
as checked by field cured concrete cylinders.
 Only clean earth, free of stones and rubble shall be used for trench backfill. Backfilling and
compacting shall be as per TCS-Q-113.02.
 Thermal resistivity of special backfill in trench shall not be more than 1.2°K cm/w.
 Upon completion of the duct bank installation, contractor provides as-built drawings showing
duct bank location map. Location shall be referenced from the permanent (existing) objects.
 PVC pipes sizes shall be as per 23-TMSS-01 & TES- P-104.05.
 Warning tape & steel wire mesh shall be as per TCS-P-104.03
 The top of concrete encasement should be colored red or red cement as per TCS-P-104.03.
 The concrete for encasement shall attain 20 N/mm² compressive strength at 28 days as per 70-
TMSS-03.

 PVC conduit should be equipped with end bells and cable duct shall be sealed with duct sealing
compound as per 23-TMSS-02.
 The both ends of the concrete encased duct banks should be provided with marker.
 Fiber optic cable inside ø110mm PE corrugated duct (including 3*42mm sub duct with pulling
ropes).

6.0 INSPECTION AND TESTING

 Testing shall be conducted by Company’s third party site laboratory for compressive strength to
attained maximum strength.
 DELTA Contractor’s QC Engineer shall raise relevant QC records.
 Tests shall be carried out as per the Project Quality Control Plan.
 Delta QA/QC civil engineer will provide tally for concrete pouring checklist.

7.0 SAFETY

Prime importance shall be given for personnel safety and protection of utility lines/services. It shall
be ensured that the personnel involved are aware about the Company Safety regulation and confirm
that the machineries are regularly maintained. Further to above, the following key points shall be
considered important.
 Copies of drivers/operator’s license vehicle’s registration and security passes to be submitted to
Company safety department before commencing the work.
 All moving vehicle/equipment shall have reverse horn.
 Transporting of persons per vehicle is restricted to the number of seat belts available in the
pickup.
 Deep excavations shall be adequately shored, barricaded and warning signs & lights shall be
posted.
 Road safety signs/road diversion signs shall be installed wherever applicable for the safe
movement of vehicles and equipment.
 All major equipment shall be tested and certified by Third Party prior to mobilization to site.
 All works shall comply with safety procedure or instruction as set in out in project Safety Plan and
Municipality rules and regulation.
 Which Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) shall be worn by all staff or labors.
 All the work should be carried out under the supervision of Competent Person.
 Always maintain good Housekeeping.
