Rationale/Project Background:
Mahintana Foundation, Inc. is implementing the project entitled, Strengthening Off-grid Lighting with
Appropriate Renewable Energy Solutions (SOLARES) which seeks to increase access of off-grid rural
communities in Region 12 to renewable energy-based electricity. It also seeks to improve income
opportunities of rural communities through livelihood and financing support. The project, with funding
support from the European Union, will be implemented for 3 years in partnership with the Peace and
Equity Foundation and SUKELCO.

ODK-Based Training and Demonstration

Among the significant activities of the project is the conduct of SHS distribution, installation and
verification using the Open Data Kit (ODK) system for each of the 6,000 off-grid households in 50 target
barangays.

For this particular activity, the project team shall train the SUKELCO-identified CBTs and SBUs on the basics
of installation, management & operation of the ODK profiling tool using android-powered
tablets/smartphones for the installation and verification of the 3,000 SHS units allotted for Sultan Kudarat
areas/municipalities particularly for Lebak and Kalamansig. The survey results will serve as baselines for
monitoring the number of beneficiaries/recipients of the project.

Objectives:
This activity aims to train at least forty-one (41) enumerators from the municipality of Lebak and
Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat on the installation, operation, maintenance of the ODK system. Specifically, it
seeks to:

1. Train the individual CTBs and SBUs identified by SUKELCO in the proper use/conduct of the
ODK-based profiling tool and consequently, identify potential issues to the electronic data
collection (EDC) tool esp. on the form/questionnaire prior to the actual
conduct/implementation of the SHS installation.
