MID-YEAR IN-SERVICE TRAINING
February 9-11, 16-17, 2021

Day 1 (February 9, 2021)

The registration of participants started at 7:30 and ended at 8:30 AM. The
training started with an opening program facilitated by the English Department. It
started with a Prayer followed by Homage to Country then by the singing of the
Himamaylan and Division Hymn. The participants were warmly welcomed by the
representative from the English group, Mrs. Risty Angel Y. Vasquez. It was then
followed by the checking of attendance carried out by Mr. Aron Jan F. Geanga, the
food for thought about A Bundle of Sticks was read by the host, Miss Kristel Anne
Valencia and all had fun doing the energizer through a zumba dance. The house rules
was enumerated and made clear to the participants which were; coming on time,
signing of the attendance sheet, participating actively, putting mobile phones in silent
mode, cleaning the session hall after use, and encouraging participants to participate
and to do the required outputs. After which the first speaker was then introduced and it
marked the start of the session proper.
The first speaker was Dr. Risa M. Vidal, the topic was about COVID 19 and
Beyond: A “New” World for Teachers. The speaker made the contrast before and how
it is now as it hit the profession. In the middle of the discussion the participants were
tasked to write their reflection in any form they want in a piece of paper. All in all, the
topic made the participants realize the new responsibilities brought by the pandemic
since it is not only the teachers who were affected but the psychological impact to the
kids as well. The agency also enjoined teachers to make efforts in addressing drop
outs, removing barriers to connectivity, strengthening of data and monitoring of learning
outcomes.
The next topic is all about Teaching Strategies To Develop Higher Order
Thinking Skills as presented by Mr. Jezrel D. Villa. The speaker first established the
objectives, followed by key concepts and he gave the participants a pre activity wherein
they were required to write questions given the lower and higher thinking skills. The
speaker also presented and clearly discussed the ten different strategies wherein

teachers could help cultivate learners’ higher thinking skills. Enumerated are the
strategies, help determine what higher order thinking is; connect concepts; teach
students to infer; encourage questioning; use graphic organizer; teach problem solving
strategies; encourage creative thinking; use mind movies; teach students to elaborate
their answers and teach question and answer relationship. The topic ended with a
video given by Dylan Hyman and the morning session ended exactly at 12:15 PM.
The afternoon session started with a prayer followed by food for thought and an
energizer, the English group was in charge of the MOL. The topic is all about
Strategies and Methods to Manage Learner’s Gender, Needs, Strengths, Interests and
Experiences as explained by Mrs. Mary Desiree M. Cartujano. Base on the speaker’s
discussion the emphasis on the principle one-size –fits-all does not apply in our
instruction and is retroactive for our students. The key for meaningful learning at any
level and across learning areas is differentiated instruction. Doc Ivan and Doc Risa also
reiterated that sometimes the roles portrayed at home could affect the learners’
perception in gender. The speaker also give emphasis on the strategies that the
teachers may use which are; anchor activities; centers, choice boards; compacting
flexible grouping; group investigation; jigsaw; learning contracts; stations, Socratic
seminar; tic-tac-toe; tiered assignments and web quests.
After the presentation the participants were tasked to answer a posttest base on
the strategies to develop HOTS and a sefl-reflection tool from the afternoon session.
The session ended at exactly 4:58 PM.

Day 2 (February 10, 2021)

The participants were able to assemble at the covered court before the program started
at 8:30 AM. The program was hosted by the Science and Math Department with their
respective roles for today. Smooth transition took place from the opening prayer (sound
system), followed by the thought-provoking words to ponder brought to us by Ms. Beverly T.
Galve, a representative from Math Department wherein teachers were able to share their
thoughts and ideas about what we really need to have especially in these trying times. The
attendance of the participants was recognized by Mr. Francisco T. De la Peña Jr., a
representative from Science Department tasked for Attendance Check. We were energized by
the music of Mathematics Dance and after sweating much from dancing, Mrs. Ester H.
Talorong gave us the overall recap of yesterday’s activities. The house rules since day 1 were
initiated and still taken into consideration. The Science Department Coordinator, Mrs. Grace
Mary B. Bonilla welcomed the participants with bliss and enthusiasm. After all that preliminary
activities, our eyes, ears and hearts are all ready for more and are excited to cater learnings
essential in our field of work. The speaker was then introduced.

The sole speaker for today was no other than Dr. Lord Ivan A. Pancho, his topic for the
morning session was all about Planning and managing developmentally-sequenced teaching
and learning processes. The speaker distributed a piece of paper without telling the
participants what to do with it at first and goes on introducing the objectives of his topic. In his
temperature check, he posted some engaging acronyms and the participants laughed hard
after knowing their meanings. He then asked the participants if what type of teachers are they?
Are they the so-called: peacemaker, angry bird, bookworm, Poncio Pilato, Pacman, Extension
Wire, Load, and Nokia with their funny yet true representations. And with that, teachers also
have four variations namely; Lumang luma, Lumang Bago, Bagong Luma and Bagong Bago
with pictures showing the way teachers deliver their lessons, be it traditionally or modernized.
Going back to the paper Doc Ivan handed the participants, he instructed them to share life
lessons they have learned from their experiences based on lesson planning. Some of the
participants shared their life lessons and experiences and seek some clarification in some
parts of the lesson plan. Good thing, Dr. Risa M. Vidal, the Lead Facilitator, was able to clarify

misconceptions about lesson planning. The speaker emphasized that lesson planning is
crucial in teaching and that teachers must always be prepared before stepping into the
classroom. He gave some examples and recommendations as to what activities they could
use for motivation. The morning session ended at exactly 12:00 Noon.

In the afternoon session, the Science and Math Department still, were the in-charged
for the MOL. They were blessed with the appearance of the PSDS for Cluster III, Mrs. Jennifer
B. Vasquez, who they gladly welcomed. As for his second appearance, the host introduced Dr.
Lord Ivan A. Pancho for another topic entitled, “Appropriate Teaching and Learning
Resources”, starting with the introduction of the objectives, posting wordless, defining key
concepts such as learning goals, teaching and learning resources and inclusion of information
and communications technology. He made clear that there are guidelines in selecting teaching
and learning resources and it must always be aligned with learning goals. He provided types of
resources with sets of examples for different situations depending on the learning objectives.
He also posted questions about the TLRs Ma’am Risty used in lesson planning and the
participants were able to identify if the resources used were suited to the learning objectives or
not. The speaker even brought concrete examples of resources which can be used for an
effective class discussion to eliminate boredom among learners. He even made possible for
the participants to try different interactive games in which students may learn the lesson
efficiently while enjoying. All in all, the speaker, without any doubt, capacitated them to
become better at writing lesson plans and showed expertise in his topics presented,
transforming a question mark into a period.

After the presentation, the participants were tasked to write a lesson plan integrating
teaching-learning resources using what they have learned from the morning and afternoon
sessions. The program ended at exactly 5:00 PM.

Day 3 (February 11, 2021)

The participants were able to assemble at the covered court before the program started
at 8:30 AM. The program was hosted by the Mapeh and Araling Panlipunan Department with
their respective roles for today. Smooth transition took place from the opening prayer by Mr.
Marlon P. Tabaculde a representative from Araling Panlipunan Department, followed by Food
for Thought brought to us by Mr. Marlon Rey A. Somido a representative from Mapeh
Department wherein teachers were able to share their thoughts and ideas about the Heart of a
Teacher in the video. The attendance of participants was recognized by Mrs. Rima G. Meleloa
a representative from Mapeh Department task for attendance check.

We energized with the energetic Intermission number by Mrs. Anna Marie E. Centena
and she gave us the over all recap of yesterday’s activity a representative from Mapeh
Department. We energized also by the dance of Mapeh and Araling Panlipunan Department.
The Araling Panlipunan Department Teacher , Mr. Jose T. Talorong welcomed the
participants with bliss and enthusiasm. After all the preliminary activities, our eyes, ears and
hearts are all ready for more and are excited to cater learning essentials in our field of work.

The speaker was then introduced.

The sole speaker for today was no other than Mrs. Risty Angel Y. Vasquez her topic for
the morning session was all about The Power of Positive and Non-Violent Discipline. The
speaker distributed an activity to be answer by the participants, and after that she discussed
her topic until the morning session ended at exactly 12:00 Noon.

In the afternoon session the Mapeh and Araling Panlipunan Department still, were
incharged for the MOI.. The host introduced the speaker for the afternoon session no than our
very own Dr. Risa M. Vidal, her topic for the afternoon session was all about IPCRF Planning
and Commitment of Teachers and School Heads and also she discussed about the
Understanding the RPMS SY 2020-2021 in the time of COVID 19 and the discussion end at
exactly 5:00 PM.

Day 4 (February 16, 2021)

The program started at 8:30 AM. The program was hosted by the TLE, ESP and Filipino
Departments with their distinct roles for today. Transition of activities were flawlessly handled from the
opening prayer (sound system), followed by the National Anthem and Panunumpa sa Katungkulan ng
mga Guro. Participants were able to reflect in the food for thought that was brought about by Mrs. Risty
Angel Y. Vasquez, a representative from Filipino Department wherein teachers were able to share their
thoughts and ideas. The fun never ends there because they were serenated by Ms. Mia T. Gayotayan
and energizer was started by all the host department teachers. The attendance of the participants was
recognized by Mr. Francisco T. De la Peña Jr., a representative from ESP Department assigned for
that specific task. The house rules since day 1 were followed diligently by the participants. The
anticipation finally has come to an end when the speaker for the morning session was finally
introduced.

The first speaker was Mr. Jezrel D. Villa with the topic entitled, “Participate in Collegial
Discussions That Use Teacher and Learner Feedback to Enrich Teaching”, who made us realized the
importance of participating in every discussion, be it formal or informal, concerning the welfare of the
learners. In that very moment, participants were able to grasp that there are four modes of collegial
discussion such as Peer observation, PLC (Professional Learning Community), Coaching session and
Learning walk. They even had a chance to role play all the mentioned modes and realized afterwards if
they portrayed them correctly. Mistakes were corrected constructively. The morning session ended at
11:45 A.M.

In the afternoon session, Mr. Aron Jan F. Geanga took place the spotlight during his talk about
another relevant and timely topic, “Communication of Learner’s needs, progress and achievement”. He
presented objectives and key concepts needed in understanding the topic. He gave an activity to enrich
the reflection state of each participants. There they concluded that there are certain parameters in
communicating learner’s needs to stakeholders. The speaker also posted some funny and up-to-date
videos of a teacher delivering modules to her learners. That time, participants realized that a teacher
will do anything for learners to learn even if it means danger to them. They never know what’s waiting
for them but they chose to. The session ended with lots of realizations and bounty of learnings gained
from the speaker. They were informed of the templates used to record and safe-keep the records of the
learner’s needs, progress and achievement. That was a stress-free discussion and they opened their
hearts with hunger for more learnings. The program ended at exactly 5:00 PM.

Day 5 (February 17, 2021)

The last day of Midyear INSET started with an opening program organized by
the Senior High School Department at 8:00 o’clock in the morning.The said program
started with a Prayer. The participants were eager to listen for the new topics to be
delivered by the speaker. It was then followed by the checking of attendance led by Sir
Art Dollosa and the food for thought by Sir Lord Ivan A. Pancho. In order for the
partcipants to be recognized Senior High School Department led the zumba dance.
The house rules had reminded made clear to the participants which were; coming on
time, signing of the attendance sheet, participating actively, putting mobile phones in
silent mode, cleaning the session hall after use, and encouraging participants to
participate and to do the required outputs. After which the first speaker was then
introduced and it marked the start of the session proper.
The first speaker was Sir Efren O. Gedalanga, the topic was about Reorientation
of the teachers’ benefits and HR Concerns and Updates. The speaker was able to
show mastery of his topic and delivered it well. Speaker was able to address the
questions that was asked by the participants. The said topic ended at 12:00 o’clock
Noon.

In the afternoon session, Mam Jocelyn B. Barnuevo, SEPS of HRD shared her
talk about “ Mental Health in School Setiing”. The speaker presented the effects of
stress in our daily lives. The participants realized that stress can make the work difficult
and leads to poor performance. The speaker stressed out that during this difficult times
we need to have positive mindset to face all the negativies and endeavor in life
including this time of pandemic. The speaker showed mastery and she was able to
answer all the querries regarding the topic. That was a stress-free discussion and they
opened their hearts with hunger for more learnings.

After the talk, the facilitator conducted the closing program and giving of certificates to
the participants. It was a fun day to everyone because all the participants received a “Fun
Awards”. The program ended at exactly 5:20 in the afternoon.
