LESSON 9: Zen Teachings and Parables by Muso Soseki

If there are any of my classmate who constantly cheats on tests and receives high
grades, I will not judge him/her immediately but I will first find out what his/her
situation is. Because maybe he/she had a reason why he/she did that, maybe he/she
was studying under pressure of his/her family or whatever pushed him/her to cheat in
class and many expectations of his/her family in terms of grades .Of course this is not
enough reason to cheat in class in the reason of cheating on the class is immoral because
it is the wrong way to pass the class and in reality this cheating habits is not only the
teachers you are cheating on but also yourself because high grades are useless if there
is no real knowledge formed. In fact, I cheated in class too but I realized it was wrong
and I was only cheating myself.

We cannot deny that every action of human has an associated consequence. In cheating,
it is easy to judge the person who is cheating in class but this is not the right solution to
lower someone but should be enlightened similar to Zen Parables the Right and Wrong
when a pupil was caught stealing and the Bankei did not expelled him out instead keep
him even if all the rest leave and enlighten the right from wrong.
