MY LANGUAGE BIOGRAPHY

I am Jessa Mae Gundan, 18 years of age. I am currently living in Caggay, Tuguegarao

City and I speak three languages, Malaueg, Tagalog, and English. I was raised in Rizal,
Cagayan where most of the residents speak Malaueg, which is my first language and is
the main language that I used at home. I acquired my mother tongue through interaction
with my parents who personally taught me the basics such as numbers (issa, duwa, tallu,
and so on), and also the environments surround me. Sometimes my mother speaks
nonstop Malaueg when she was so angry with me for being naught and immature.
Using this language, I can speak, read, write, sing and easily understand and identify the
feelings of other people. I can also communicate more effectively with others especially
in my hometown, Rizal.

The second languages that I know are Tagalog and English. I learned these languages
through watching Pinoy movies or dramas, news, listening to music, and reading
Tagalog and English stories. I also learned it from my teachers during my elementary
days, we used Filipino and English in school. They taught us the Filipino alphabet as well
as their sounds and helped us to pronounce and spell simple words. We count together,
sing Filipino songs and nursery rhymes. My mother also assists me in learning it at
home. I remember during my elementary days, every night before bed, my mom would
flip through flashcards containing some English words and sentences and help me to
pronounce and translate each of them into Tagalog. Using Tagalog and English
languages increase my first language skills with reading, spelling, vocabulary, grammar,
and communication. I can speak, write stories and poems, and debate using it.

The things that identify as my strengths in languages that I acquired are grammar,
vocabulary, spelling, pronunciation, and can speak fluently using Tagalog and Malaueg
languages. Meanwhile, my language weaknesses would be the disorganization of my
thoughts and ideas whenever I speak English in front of a huge crowd due to my speech
anxiety and poor confidence. And sometimes, I find it difficult to understand English
when a speaker has an accent and speaks quickly.

At this moment, my favorite language is Tagalog because I can more freely express
myself, my thoughts, my words and speaks fluently using this language to people, more
interaction with them. It is also the language that I mostly used when texting or talking to
my friends because we have different dialects and Tagalog is the only common language
that we can use to understand each other.
