3. Netiquette

By definition, etiquette is "the customary code of polite behavior in

society or among members of a particular profession or group." In
cyberspace, netiquette is "acceptable way of communicating and behaving
on the Internet."

Netiquette Tips
DO’s:
 Students are expected to attend classes regularly and on time.
 Remember this is still a classroom.
 Student is expected to monitor their absences.
 Respect your instructor and your peers. Be polite.
 Treat people as you would during an in-person class.
 Remember we can see you; wear appropriate clothing (e.g. I was
once on a Zoom meeting with someone who was not wearing a
shirt. Not okay.)
 Be precise. It is easier for everyone when taking turns answering
over video if you don’t ramble.
 Be credible. Make sure you differentiate between something that is
your opinion vs. backed by facts.
 When typing, use proper language, grammar, spelling. Limit the
use of emojis and all capital letters in responses.
 Ask questions when you are confused via the chat feature
 Be someplace quiet without distractions (e.g. no pets, roommates,
not in a coffee shop etc.)
 Stay focused. Turn off your phone and other devices that may be
distracting.
 Breathe. Be patient. This won’t be perfect.
 Take this as an opportunity to learn in a new way.
 Students are expected to maintain academic honesty and integrity.
 Cheating and plagiarism (copying someone else’s work and
claiming as your own) are subject to sanctions which may include a
grade of zero (0) for exam/assignment or project and/or failure in
the subject.
