JOB-2

Job Title:
To find the length of survey scheme lines by pacing.

Date of Performance:

23rd February, 2015.

Instrument used:

Poles, Fiber glass tape:

Procedure:

First of all fix the ranging rods at the station points .then move from one station point to the other say
from D to C and count the no of steps taken carefully, move again from point C to D and again count
the steps .Find the average pace .it must be in whole numbers. Multiply it with your pace length it
will give the length of the line DC. Repeat the same procedure to find the length of other six lines
respectively.

Brief Description of instrument:

These poles are used for ranging and to help the person to walk in a straight line. It is marked with
red and white line. Red part is to differentiate it from white background and white part is for red
background. These marking are of 1 foot each i.e. one foot of red color then 1 foot of white color.

Table of observations and calculations:

Pace-length: 0.725 m

Precautions

 One should walk in exactly straight line

 If a person started walking with the toe at the starting point then he should end with the toe,
and if he/she started walking with a heal first then he should end with a heal.
 One should not walk in artificial manner. Walking should be in a natural way.
 Exact point for placing the poles should be found. We added the wall width at the end.

Results:.

We get a plan as a result of surveying

Remarks

When we started walking from one point to another in the ground, at some points it was very difficult
due to the wet mud and grass because of rain. Also at some points we have to walk in two parts as
there was a wall between the points. Some points were very close and the other were far away and
walking between them again and again was tiring. One of the points to fix pole that was in the
ground was real hard to find but we found it in the end. The sockets of the poles were filled with mud
and we had to clean it before plugging it in the point.
