LESSON PLAN IN TECHNOLOGY AND LIVELIHOOD EDUCATION

Shielded Metal Arc Welding

DAY ? 2HRS SMAW 12

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates an understanding of the concepts and

underlying principles in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).

Performance Standard: The learner independently performs Shielded Meal Arc

Welding (SMAW) processes based on market standards.

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of 60 minute period, 75% of the students should be able to:
a. Distinguish the position of Flat Welding Position (2G).
b. Observe the safety precautions in performing the 2G position.
c. Perform the 1G position in accordance with the welding standards.

Learning Competency: Weld Carbon Steel Plates in Flat position (2G).

Code: Tle_IAaw9-12GW-Ia-j-2

II. CONTENT
A. TOPIC: Weld Carbon Steel Plates in Flat Position (2G)
B. REFERENCE: Session Plan in SMAW Plates
C. MATERIALS: Laptop, Projector, SMAW Welding Machine, Welding
Electrode (6013), Welding Helmet, Leather Gloves,
Leather Apron, Safety Shoes, steel brush, chipping
hammer, CBLM, Session Plan.

D. VALUES: keen observation

III. PROCEDURE/METHODOLOGY:

A. Preliminary Activities:
a. Checking of Attendance
Teachers Activity Students Activity
Good Morning class. Good Morning Sir
How are you today? We’re fine Sir…
Do you feel great? Yes Sir...
What makes you feel great?(Ask a random I feel great sir because I have seen my
learner.) crush...
Ok, That’s good to hear.
Ok, let us check your attendance. Who is (Student who are present will raise their
not present today? hand and say present.)
That is great to hear. Thank you sir.

b. Motivation
Teachers Activity Students Activity
Before we start our lesson proper, I would (The student will observe keenly in the
like to present to you a short video clip on video in 2 minutes.)
how a 2G position is performed according
to the welding standards to invigorate your
will to learn more. (a video plays in the
projector.)
What are your thoughts after watching the Sir, My thoughts after watching on how to
video?(select a random student to hear weld the 2G position greatly enhances my
his/her thoughts.) confidence and made me realize that I
want to enhance my welding performance
just like the video we had watch.
Very good! I am sure all of you will Thank you Sir!
become a great welder someday too.
Anymore thoughts? (A number of student will give their thought
about the video)
Ok, I hope it inspired you very well. Thank you Sir!

B. Presentation of the Lesson:

a. Lesson Proper
Teachers Activity Students Activity
Okay, Let us go to our lesson. let’s see if First, The welder should prepare the tools
anyone could elaborate the sequence on and equipment to be used in welding such
how to weld in Flat Position (2G) based on as: welding machine, welding electrode
the video you all previously watched.(call (6013), the PPE, the flat bar or work piece
an individual student each step) to be weld.
Very Nice! And the second step? (call Second, Place The metal or work piece to
another student.) be weld in a flat surface and use a marking
tool to draw a line that is used as a guide
to welders
Fantastic! (call another student.) Third, Wear the PPE and use the steel
brush to wipe any dust or rust in the metal
before executing welding.
Your learning! (call another student.) Fourth, clamp the return clamp in the work
piece or any metal that is adjacent to the
work piece and clamp the electrode to the
electrode holder. Set up the Amperes.
Excellent! (call another student.) Fifth, Position myself to welding stance
and my electrode should not be too close
or too far away from the work piece to
produce an arc.
Astounding! (call another student.) Sixth, Before starting the arc, the electrode
should be in 45 degree angle and use the
rotary weaving by moving my electrode in
a circular motion moving to the right if I
use my right hand and move it to the left if
I use left hand when manipulating the
electrode holder.
A fast learner! (call another student.) Seventh, After the weaving, I will allow the
metal to cool before I start chipping the
slag and clean it off by using the steel
brush.
Wow, Thank you for giving me an extra (The student’s are now well confident to
ordinary sequence of your answers. Weld in Flat Position 2G)
(The Teacher will give the students a hand (each student will get their own copy)
outs about the sequence on Performing
Welding in Flat Position for them to retain
the steps when welding 2G.)
Class, read again the steps and let’s have Yes sir!(everyone)
an activity to test your skills in 5 minutes.
Done? Can we now proceed? Yes sir!(everyone)
c. Generalization

d. Practice Exercise
Teachers Activity Students Activity
Can anyone give me one of the The metal or the workpiece should be
characteristics of a 1G position? (call a welded in Flat position sir!
random student.)
Very good. Thank you Sir.
Direction: Individual students should
perform the Flat welding position (1G) in
accordance with the welding standards.
Refer to the given hand outs the
sequence.
(A Rubrics will be presented to measure (Each Student will be given a 5minute limit
the student’s skills in Welding Flat Position to finish the activity.)
(2G).)

V. AGREEMENT:

1. For our agreement, I would like you to Yes Sir.
research the ways on where to apply the
