underlying principles in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).

Performance Standard: The learner independently performs Shielded Meal Arc

Welding (SMAW) processes based on market standards.

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of 60 minute period, 75% of the students should be able to:
a. Distinguish the position of Flat Welding Position (2G).
b. Observe the safety precautions in performing the 2G position.
c. Perform the 1G position in accordance with the welding standards.

Leather Apron, Safety Shoes, steel brush, chipping

Students Activity
First, The welder should prepare the tools
and equipment to be used in welding such
as: welding machine, welding electrode
(6013), the PPE, the flat bar or work piece
to be weld.
Second, Place The metal or work piece to
be weld in a flat surface and use a marking
tool to draw a line that is used as a guide
to welders
Third, Wear the PPE and use the steel
brush to wipe any dust or rust in the metal
before executing welding.
Fourth, clamp the return clamp in the work
piece or any metal that is adjacent to the
work piece and clamp the electrode to the
electrode holder. Set up the Amperes.
Fifth, Position myself to welding stance
and my electrode should not be too close
or too far away from the work piece to
produce an arc.
Sixth, Before starting the arc, the electrode
should be in 45 degree angle and use the
rotary weaving by moving my electrode in
a circular motion moving to the right if I
use my right hand and move it to the left if
I use left hand when manipulating the
electrode holder.
Seventh, After the weaving, I will allow the
metal to cool before I start chipping the
slag and clean it off by using the steel
brush.
