The paper is prepared to fulfill the assignment of English for Mechanical Subject. In addition,
this paper aims to add insight about Bulldozer for readers and also for writers.
The author would like to thank Mrs. Khadijah Saenong as a teacher of English for Mechanical
Subject. Thanks are also extended to all those who have assisted in the completion of this paper.
The author realizes that this paper is still far from perfect. Therefore, suggestions and

BAB I
PRELIMINARY
A. Background
Heavy equipment as we know it in civil engineering is a tool used to assist humans in
carrying out the work of building a structure. The use of heavy equipment that is not
appropriate to the conditions and situations of the work field will have an effect in the
form of losses, including low production, not achieving the predetermined schedule or
target, or improper repair losses. Therefore, before determining the type and number of
equipment and attachments, it is necessary to understand its function and application.
There are various kinds of tools that are often used in construction work, but what will
be discussed in this paper are only tools that are commonly used for construction
work. The tools that will be discussed include: bulldozers, transportation equipment
such as loaders, digging tools or excavators, motor graders, and long-distance
transport equipment such as dump trucks. Here will also be given examples of
productivity calculations for each type of tool that will be discussed.
B. History
• Inventor of the Bulldozer.
The first bulldozer was created in 1904 under the Caterpillar brand by an
expert from the United States named Benjamin Holt. The term "caterpillar" comes
from the English language meaning caterpillar which is intended as a crawler
tracktor. The name caterpillar was invented by a hotographer who worked for
Benjamin Holt, where one day he photographed Holt's bulldozer upside down so
that the trackshoe looks like a crawling caterpillar.
Benjamin Holt finally founded a company called Caterpillar in August 1925,
which was a merger of Holt's company with its competitor, the C. L. Best Gas
Tractor Co.While the term "bulldozer" refers to a shovel or large blade (blade)
mounted on the front of any tractor or vehicle and has been in use for many years.
Robert Gilmour Le Tourneau said that the La Plante-Choate company was the
company that first invented the knife bulldozer. The nickname bulldozer comes

from the habit of bulls (bull) which have more strength where they push each other
in a competition during the breeding season.
C. Purpose
Students are expected to be able and able to classify existing heavy equipment

DISCUSSION
A. Bulldozer
Bulldozer is a heavy equipment that has a track shoe for versatile work that has high traction
capability. Can be used for digging (digging), pushing (pushing), displacing leveling
(spreading), pulling loads, filling (filling), and more. Able to operate in soft areas to hard
areas though. With swamp dozer for very soft areas, and very hard areas need to be assisted
with a ripper (harrowing tool), or by blasting (blasting with the aim of breaking a certain
size). Able to operate on sloping areas with a certain slope angle, hilly, especially in flat
areas. The efficient thrust distance is between 25-40 meters and not more than 100 meters.
The backward distance should not be too far, if necessary, the pushing movement is carried
out in a relay. Encouraging in descending areas is more effective and productive than in
uphill areas. Attachments that usually accompany it include: various blades, towing, winch,
ripper, tree pusher, harrow, disc plough, towed scraper, sheep foot roller, pipe layer
equipment, and others.
Basically a bulldozer is a tool that uses a tractor as its main mover, meaning that a
tractor equipped with a dozer attachment in this case is equipped with a blade attachment.
Actually, bulldozer is the name of the type of dozer, in addition to pushing straight ahead, it
is also possible to push sideways at an angle of 250 to the straight position.
6
B. Bulldozer Function
• Clear the terrain of logs, tree stumps and rocks
• Open work roads in the mountains and in rocky areas
• Move land up to 300 feet or ± 90 m . away
• Attract scrapper
• Spreading fill/fill soil
• Restock the trencher
• Site/terrain cleaning
• Maintenance of work roads
• Prepare materials from soil borrow pit and quarry pit
C. Bulldozer Classification
1. From a blade control perspective.
7
2. In terms of the driving wheel.
3. In terms of the shape of the bulldozer blade that can be used as needed.
8
Straight Blade (S-Blade)
Straight blade is suitable for all types of courts, this blade is also a modification of the U-
Blade, maneuver is easier and this ball can handle material easily.
9
Angling Blade (A-Blade)
Angling blades are made for straight and angled positions. These blades can also be made for:
a. Side casting
b. Road opening (pioneering roads)
c. Digging channels (cutting ditches)
d. Other suitable work.
7.
10
Blowdozer (B-Blade)
This blade is made to carry / push material with as little loss as possible, due to the
presence of iron walls on the blade side which are quite wide. Its shape is like a bowl, which
is why it is called a bowl-dozer.
Lightblade
This tool is designed for the work of lighter non-cohesive materials. Examples are stock piles
from loose/loose soil.

CLOSING
A. Conclusion
From the explanation that has been classified, we can draw a conclusion that the bulldozer heavy
equipment that we have studied has several other heavy equipment that is different according to
its function.
B. Suggestion
1. As best as possible in carrying out field tasks, the most important thing is
communication so that all members can jointly carry out the task.
2. Before doing the task or in compiling the paper, master the material first so that you can
complete it well
