7:00pm

October 7, 2021 I concluded all the things I did in my experiment.

10:00 am

Materials used:
• Board (1.22 meters)
• Books
• Toy car (Length: 9”, Width: 7 inches, Height: 7.5 inches)
• Measuring tape
Step by step process:
1. I searched for the materials that I’ve used to perform the experiment

2. I set the ramp to its starting height which is 2 inches.

3. Then I set the height of the ramp using the books to 4 inches until 10 inches.

1. After setting the height of ramp into 10 inches, I set it into 12 inches until 16 inches
Gathered data:
𝑥 (height in inches) 𝑦 (Distance in inches)
2 63
4 73
6 92
8 116
10 136
12 166
14 177
16 189

Problem:
(MATHEMATICAL MODEL)

The toy car rolled on the ramp. The ramp is 2 inches high and that is the starting height of the
ramp. After the ramp was set into its starting point, I placed the toy car in the ramp and let it
roll. The distance of the car from the ramp was 63 inches. What is the distance of the car from
the starting point?
!
𝑑(ℎ) = ((𝑥2 − 𝑥1) + (𝑦2 − 𝑦1)!
!
𝑑(ℎ) = ((2 − 0) + (63 − 0)!
!
𝑑(ℎ) = √2 + 63!
𝑑(ℎ) = √4 + 3969
𝑑(ℎ) = √3973
𝑑(ℎ) = 63.03 𝑖𝑛.

The toy car rolled on the ramp. The ramp is 4 inches high and that is the starting height of the
ramp. After the ramp was set into its starting point, I placed the toy car in the ramp and let it
roll. The distance of the car from the ramp was 73 inches. What is the distance of the car from
the starting point?
!
𝑑(ℎ) = ((𝑥2 − 𝑥1)! + (𝑦2 − 𝑦1)
𝑑(ℎ) = ((4 − 0)! + (73 − 0)!
𝑑(ℎ) = ((4)! + (73)!
𝑑(ℎ) = √16 + 5329
𝑑(ℎ) = √5345
𝑑(ℎ) = 73.11 𝑖𝑛.
The toy car rolled on the ramp. The ramp is 6 inches high and that is the starting height of the
ramp. After the ramp was set into its starting point, I placed the toy car in the ramp and let it
roll. The distance of the car from the ramp was 92 inches. What is the distance of the car from
the starting point?
!
𝑑(ℎ) = ((𝑥2 − 𝑥1)! + (𝑦2 − 𝑦1)
𝑑(ℎ) = ((6 − 0)! + (92 − 0)!
𝑑(ℎ) = ((6)! + (92)!
𝑑(ℎ) = √36 + 8464
𝑑(ℎ) = √8500
𝑑(ℎ) = 92.10 𝑖𝑛.

The toy car rolled on the ramp. The ramp is 8 inches high and that is the starting height of the
ramp. After the ramp was set into its starting point, I placed the toy car in the ramp and let it
roll. The distance of the car from the ramp was 116 inches. What is the distance of the car from
the starting point?
!
𝑑(ℎ) = ((𝑥2 − 𝑥1)! + (𝑦2 − 𝑦1)
𝑑(ℎ) = ((8 − 0)! + (116 − 0)!
𝑑(ℎ) = ((8)! + (116)!
𝑑(ℎ) = √48 + 13456
𝑑(ℎ) = √13504
𝑑(ℎ) = 116.21 𝑖𝑛.

The toy car rolled on the ramp. The ramp is 10 inches high and that is the starting height of the
ramp. After the ramp was set into its starting point, I placed the toy car in the ramp and let it
roll. The distance of the car from the ramp was 136 inches. What is the distance of the car from
the starting point?
!
𝑑(ℎ) = ((𝑥2 − 𝑥1)! + (𝑦2 − 𝑦1)
𝑑(ℎ) = ((10 − 0)! + (136 − 0)!
𝑑(ℎ) = ((10)! + (136)!
𝑑(ℎ) = √100 + 18896
𝑑(ℎ) = √18596
𝑑(ℎ) = 136.37 𝑖𝑛.
The toy car rolled on the ramp. The ramp is 12 inches high and that is the starting height of the
ramp. After the ramp was set into its starting point, I placed the toy car in the ramp and let it
roll. The distance of the car from the ramp was 166 inches. What is the distance of the car from
the starting point?
!
𝑑(ℎ) = ((𝑥2 − 𝑥1)! + (𝑦2 − 𝑦1)
𝑑(ℎ) = ((12 − 0)! + (166 − 0)!
𝑑(ℎ) = ((12)! + (166)!
𝑑(ℎ) = √144 + 27556
𝑑(ℎ) = √27700
𝑑(ℎ) = 166.43 𝑖𝑛.

The toy car rolled on the ramp. The ramp is 14 inches high and that is the starting height of the
ramp. After the ramp was set into its starting point, I placed the toy car in the ramp and let it

the starting point?
!
𝑑(ℎ) = ((𝑥2 − 𝑥1)! + (𝑦2 − 𝑦1)
𝑑(ℎ) = ((14 − 0)! + (177 − 0)!
𝑑(ℎ) = ((14)! + (177)!
𝑑(ℎ) = (196 + 31,329
𝑑(ℎ) = √31525
𝑑(ℎ) = 177.55 𝑖𝑛.

𝑑(ℎ) = ((16)! + (189)!
𝑑(ℎ) = (256) + 35721
𝑑(ℎ) = √35977
𝑑(ℎ) = 189.96 𝑖𝑛.

Conclusion:
- Based on the experiment that I did, the speed of the toy car increases every time the height of the ramp also increase and the
distance of the toy car from the starting point moves far. If the ramp is just flat and not being lift, the toy car will not function or
move. As a result of lifting the ramp, the toy car was able to move. In the experiment that I did, it shows the concept of function, the
input is the car, the output is the moving car in the help of the lifted ramp, and the graph also shows that the sets of ordered pairs
are functions.
