5.D 10.B 15.C

WHAT'S IN: Activity 1

1. Rocks - are composed of grains of minerals which are

homogeneous solids formed from a chemical compound.

2. Igneous - it is formed through the cooling and solidification of

magma or lava.

3. Sediments - formed by accumulation and lithification of

sediments or by precipitation from solution at surface
temperature.

4. Disintegration - the process of coming to pieces.

5. Decomposition - is the process which dead organic substances

are broken into simpler organic such as carbon dioxide.
WHAT'S NEW: Activity 2

Tearing of paper Burning of paper

BEFORE: BEFORE:
The paper is whole, smooth Before burning, the paper is
and glossy. smooth, whole and glossy.
AFTER:

properties.

Activity 3:

The only difference of the second picture from the first one is that
it has crack lines on the rocks.

WHAT IS IT: Activity 4

I. Physical Weathering

1. Organic activity

2. Human activity

3. Burrowing of animals

II. Chemical Weathering

4. Dissolution

5. Hydrolysis
WHAT'S MORE: Activity 5

1. Animals cause an erosion by excavating or burrowing into the

grounds to form their habitat.

2. Human can affect the rate of erosion by activities such as

agriculture which is the main way human caused soil erosion.
When vegetation is planted, the topsoil is shifted and loosen and
then transported by wind to nearby stream and become
sediment.

Activity 6:

1. Wind - can caused by a light wind that rolls soil particles along the
surface through to a strong wind that lifts a large volume of soil
particles into the air to create dust storms.

2. Water - it caused by rainfall and runoff on a slope. Rain and

flowing water carry along weathered rocks and other particles to
be deposited at lower elevation.

3. Glacier - ice sheets erode mountain surfaces over time to form

beautiful land forms. The movement of ice downhill causes
erosion of underlying rocks dealing to nicely carved up
landscapes.

Activity 7:
1. Fall - are abrupt movements of masses of geologic materials such
as rocks and boulders that become detached from step slopes or
cliffs. Separation occurs along discontinuities such as fractures,
joints, bedding planes and movement occurs by free-fall,
bouncing and rolling.

2. Slide - happens when a section of soil or rock suddenly gives way

and moves down a slope. The material moves as a single mass
along a slippery zone. The slippery zone is often made up of wet
sediment.

3. Flow - also known as "mass transfer" or "bulk flow" is the

movement of fluids down a pressure or temperature gradient,
particularly in the life sciences. Example of this is the transport of
water in vascular plant tissues.

4. Spread - an extension of a cohesive soil or rock mass combined

with a general subsidence of the fractured mass of cohesive
material into softer underlying material.

5. Topple - happens when rocks and other sediments fall through

the air and land at the bottom of a slope. Falls descend straight
down where topple lean forwards before falling.

WHAT I CAN DO: Activity 11

Soil erosion can affect the fertility of the soil which become
unsuitable for growing crops and vegetation. As the wind and water
erode the topsoil, they take the vital nutrients needed by plants in
order to grow and develop well. I can help to prevent erosion for the
community by planting vegetation and plants that help to hold the
soil in place.

4.C 9.D 14.C

5.D 10.B 15.B

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY:

The products of weathering are being carried away by erosion

when the rain falls and hits the rocks, the oxygen in the water oxidizes
the minerals in rocks causing it to break away from the rocks and
dissolved together in the water.
