Evidence: Life from a wheelchair

About 1 in every 100 people is handicapped and uses a wheelchair. Therefore,


there are about 80 million people in wheelchairs in the world. That is twice the
population of Colombia! But what is it like to live in a wheelchair?

After you watch the video answer the following questions. Use any voice
recording software to record your answers and send the file as evidence.

Use mixed conditional sentences (at least 4 examples), the idioms, vocabulary
and ideas about flexibility and adaptability studied in this learning activity (at least

 What does Ashley do for a living?

She is a communications student. She spent her life between her university,
her friend and her family. If she hadn't had aspirations to overcome
her
disability, she would not have been happy.

 How does her condition affect her daily activities and how does she deal
with it?

Being a person with a disability is quite a challenging condition, her university was
not perfectly qualified for life on campus with a disability, adding that not all people
are empathic, she had a bit of trouble geting to her classes on time because of the
traffic of people , handle everyring positively.

 What is her attitude towards life? Does she feel disabled from
certain activities?

Ashley has a positive outlook on life. She feels capable of doing things for herself,
like going to bed, she feels capable of swimming. her attitude to her life is that of a
happy person and that she never gives up until she achieves her goals, she feels
unable to perform certain activities, but her parents always support her.

 How would your life be different if you were handicapped and had to use
a wheelchair? What would be different for you? (Use mixed conditionals
in the answer).

If I had a disability and had to use a wheelchair, I would not know how to domy
daily activities as I usually do, because I could not move so fast from aplace, it
would be something unexpected, something to which I'm not used toit, I would
probably get depressed, people who have a disability are warriors and very strong.

 How do you react when you have to interact with a handicapped person?

When I interact with a handicapped person, I react in a way friendly. I try to be very
nice with that person so that it ca have a great time and it can feel very happy.

 How can you contribute to improve the life of handicapped people?

If I am a kind person, I will help to understand these people. If I have a positive


attitude, they will see life in a positive way. If I share time with them, they will
understand that they are important to society.
