OUTPUT
Question 1: What are the key concepts/ideas that you have learned from the materials given?
(Please provide your own thoughts and ideas. Avoid directly copying and pasting the definitions from the materials.)

Answer:

Learning Resource Center

Concept 1: Learning Resource Center exists in order to supplement the overall learning progress of the child.
In this topic, I have learned how important the learning resource center is, most especially in adding
new options to the sources of information for the students’ benefits. I also have learned that a teacher should
not immediately use a certain learning material as a valid source of information, unless it is thoroughly judged
and validated by the stakeholders. From the excerpt given, I have learned that a valid instructional material is
accurate, has contents that are aligned with the standards, accessible for the students, parents and teachers
and has the ability to meet the learning needs of the students to achieve learning goals and attain holistic
progress. Moreover, personally, I was really impressed as to how Leopoldo Dacera Sr. Integrated School have
modified their School Learning Resource Center (SLRC) for the benefit of the students in the Dacera
community. The video made me realize how important it is for the teachers to always think outside the box, to
grow despite the challenges that the pandemic has brought and to keep initiating things for the benefits of
their students. The school really did a great job. Overall, I have learned that the learning resource center
would really be a helpful weapon in order to lessen the concerns on illiteracy if used properly for the benefits
of the students.

Bulletin Boards Displays

Concept 2: Creating a bulletin board is always about the question “What is the learning I want to make
visible?” rather than designs.

In this lesson, I have learned the importance of knowing what to only include in making a bulletin
board. I have realized that the bulletin board of a section is a reflection of what really is the goal of the certain
section which includes the values of the people who made it, the principles that they are holding and the
practices that they are used to doing. Thus, this lesson have helped me to come up with the main concept that
bulletin boards are not mainly for design purposes and not only used to display announcements or publicize
achievements but it is mainly composed of the idea of the teacher or the creator on what really is the learning
that she wants her bulletin board to portray or to tell to people. It is more on the idea of what really is the
concept behind the designs, the content of the bulletin board and what benefits would people get upon
reading what is inside or what is pasted on the bulletin board. Thus, this lesson helped me understand that
designing a bulletin board really must include proper planning, assessment on the level of development of the
students/audience, and most importantly, knowing what additional learning you want to share through the
bulletin board that you are making. Overall, bulletin boards are not all about which has the most beautiful
designs but it is always the content that matters.

Slide Presentations
Concept 3: A PowerPoint presentation only serves as instructional material but it is not the learning material
itself where you should put everything that is on the book.

In this topic, I have learned the importance of outlining in order to carefully plan and deliberate what
are the things that I should only include in creating a PowerPoint presentation. Honestly, the tips provided in
the excerpts given are not anymore new to me since I have experienced creating PowerPoint presentations
ever since I was in my 7th grade. Our teachers also already have shared tips on how to make a powerful
presentation which contains all of the necessary information in its simplest form. Personally, I sometimes feel
sad and frustrated when I encounter teachers (especially the younger ones) who present wordy PowerPoint
presentations with very small texts and many graphics that are distracting to the eyes. Such encounters really
do affect my attention span. Sadly, teachers like this still exist even until now and I am somehow confused
about the main reason why they still make the same mistakes when teachers undergo seminars and training
on making instructional materials from manually-made to the technical ones. However, as a pre-service
teacher who is somehow “equipped” in making better PowerPoint presentations, maybe I can use this skill to
help my future colleagues, especially the older ones and teach them hands-on on how to make a more
student-friendly presentation. Overall, the tips that I got from this topic made me realize that slide
presentations are made to make the presentation of lessons more interesting and creative to the students but
it is not really the main medium of learning but the teacher itself.

Teaching Aids
Concept 4: Teaching aids exist as “aids” in order to make the teaching and learning process more interesting, it
is not the sole source of learning.

In this topic, I have come to appreciate the essence of teaching aids in helping the teacher teach the
lesson in a way that is more interesting to the students, more friendly to them and something that is new.
Moreover, I also have learned in this topic how effective teaching aids are in order to present abstract ideas to
the students, how teaching aids help in letting the students view a representation of the topic or lesson, and
how audio-visual and bodily-kinesthetic learners greatly benefit from it. However, I also have realized that it is
also best to emphasize the idea that teaching aids only exist in order to aid the teacher in the lesson proper
because the best teaching aid that a teacher will ever present to the class is herself. Yes, the best teaching aid
is the teacher herself. She must be the source of information and must be the representative for new learning
episodes. From the videos provided, it was clear that the teacher only used the teaching aids as “props” in
order to guide the students better or in order to help the students visualize what the teacher is trying to teach.
That was indeed a great representation of how a teacher properly uses teaching aids inside the classroom.
Overall, this topic has made me realize the importance of learning on how to create and how to use teaching
aids in the classroom. As a pre-service teacher, making teaching aids is not anymore a new experience but I
believe that it is always best to challenge yourself in order for you to be a better teacher and in order for you
to provide what is only the best for your students.

Question 2: How can these key concepts/ideas help you become a better teacher in the future?

Answer:

The concepts that I have gained from the topics that are introduced to us for this week would
definitely help me become a better teacher in the future. Basically, the topics focus more on other sources of
learning, from having learning resource centers, bulletin board and slide presentation making to the topic on
teaching aids. These topics are indeed important, especially that we are being bombarded with a lot of
information and so as a teacher, it is always important for us to know and assess what and how much
information we are going to present to our students and how we are going to present that information.
Honestly, the topics for this week made me realize that it is really not easy to become a teacher. In order to
become an effective teacher, you have to really be keen on filtering the information that you have in order to
present it in your class in a simpler manner for them to understand it easily and this presentation shall be
done creatively in order to make the learning process more interesting. Moreover, the topics also taught me
that as an educator, it is also best to provide opportunities for your students to learn even outside of the
classroom and that is why learning resource centers exist. The tips also on how to create slide presentations
and bulletin boards gave me more ideas on how to do these things properly in the future. As a pre-service
teacher, I really do appreciate the topics for this week for these things are basically the ones that we usually
encounter as education students and through the lessons for this week, I have gained new insights on how to
do them properly that will definitely help me to become a better teacher in the future.
