INTRODUCTORY PAPER

1. Why did you honestly take this class?

A. My father owns a real estate business based in Bangalore, India. I have been going to the

office for the past few weeks. I have noticed each individual in our office is completely

unique and how my father manages each of them is truly inspirational. The main reason to

pursue this class is to learn effective and efficient way to lead people. So one day I could

possibly be a good leader.

2. What do you hope to gain from this class?

A. I hope to learn how to lead an organisation effectively through the coursework involving

projects, tasks and experiences from the professor.

3. Name at least 3 team experiences you have had and what made them successful or

unsuccessful.

A. I led a team of 11 through a Cricket tournament. I had been working with my coach and my

teammates for almost 8 weeks for this tournament. We made it till the semi-finals of the

tournament. I believe this as a success because we did not have any extra-ordinary player

but we did have good team work. I believe this was the main reason we made it all the way

to semi- finals. As we trained together for 8 weeks, all of us knew the strengths and

weakness of each other. Working as a team has helped all of us overcome our weaknesses

through teamwork and put our strengths to the best use to win matches during the course

of the tournament.
B. When I was working at Target Corporation, India. I was a part of team which consisted of 20

people. I felt the new recruits failed to perform to their expectations during the first quarter.

I was a new recruit too as was the manager. There was lack of communication and lack of

identification of each-others’ goals during my tenure at Target. This was the case with other

new recruits too. As the manager was new, she did not know how Target functioned and

spent a while getting a hang of it. This indirectly affected the new recruits who just joined

the corporation. The orientation and the entire process was online due to Covid-19 which

just made it harder for all of us to communicate properly with all other teammates. We

needed someone to guide us through the process so we can all achieve the goals we

intended to achieve. Individually, I believe I performed well but as a team I could not

understand what my role exactly was other than fulfilling the tasks that were assigned to

me.

C. I attended a finance fest with a group of 3. The main intention of the fest was to give several

questions with not much time or sleep to spare. We would get a different set of questions

every hour. We were all confused at the beginning as to how to proceed or how to solve the

questions so quickly. We then made a plan on how to proceed with the questions. We split

each question into three halves and decided to work on it and in-case any of us got stuck,

that person would leave his/her work and to help the other individual and get to it at the

end. Though we could not solve all the questions with 100% accuracy, we were able to get

ahead of the competition. We made it to the semi- final round, where there were only 6

teams left. The semi- final round was an Auction. The top 2 teams to acquire all 11 players

with perfect utilisation of finances were to proceed to the final round. We tried to work the

same technique here by equally assigning the tasks. We were able to acquire all 11 players

with almost zero funds left with us. We eventually ended up being runners up of the fest.
