First of all, thanks to Allah SWT because of the help of Allah, writer finished writing
the paper entitled “INFINITIVE”.

The purpose in writing this paper is to fulfill the assignment that given by Ms.
Reflinda as lecturer in Advanced Grammar major. In arranging this paper, the writer trully
get lots challenges and obstructions but with help of many indiviuals, those obstructions
could passed. writer also realized there are still many mistakes in process of writing this
paper.

Because of that, the writer says thank you to all individuals who helps in the process
of writing this paper. hopefully allah replies all helps and bless you all.the writer realized tha
this paper still imperfect in arrangment and the content. then the writer hope the criticism
from the readers can help the writer in perfecting the next paper.last but not the least

CHAPTER I
INTRODUCED

A. Background

We often hear the word wish in English sentences, wish is a form of verb or verb in
English. Wishes is a form of subjunctive, subjunctive is a verb that is used to express an
expectation or supposition for something that turns out to be very different from reality.
Wish is also used to show a conditional form or what is explained in an English
sentence, even though it is seen as a simple verb or verb form, Wish has rules for using it, so
in this paper we want to explain and give the example of expressing wishes.

A. What is Infinitive?

The infinitive is the basic form of the verb (verb). The format of the infinitive is to + Verb
base (V1). So if the verb usually changes form, in the infinitive the verb does not change at
all from the basic form.

B. When to use the infinitive?

1. Indicates purpose or intention to do something

Example of sentences :

• I am going to meet her soon.


• I came here to meet a friends.
• I called you to ask about this important job.

2. As the subject of the sentence

Example of sentences :

• To understand this writing, you must understand English.


• To travel to Arab, that is my dream.
• To love is to be willing to sacrifice.

3. Show that something can or will be used or done

Example of sentences :

• I need something to drink


• She said she has nothing to bag.

4. Used after adjectives

Example of sentences :

• It's nice of you to say that.


• It's important for you to practice your basketball every week.

5. To leave a comment

Example of sentences :

• It was a very important thing to do.


• Velia is the best partner to working a job.
• That was not a nice thing to say, Riska.

Infinitive formula

The infinitive formula is only related to the form of the verb form which is preceded by to,
such as: to meet, to cook, to help, to solve, to marry, and so on. The to infinitive can be
used for various things, such as being a noun in the form of a subject in a sentence. In
addition, to infinitive can be used as an adverb of an object, as a description of an adjective,
an adverb of a verb, and can also be used to follow the wh-word.

The infinitive formula in a sentence will certainly be different, depending on the to


infinitive function in a sentence. The following are some formulas for the infinitive on
sentence structure for various patterns.

(adverb). When used as a noun, the infinitive can occupy the position of the subject, direct
object, apposative, or complementary subject.
