1.

Introduction
1.1 Background
Healthcare Pharmaceuticals limited (HPL) is one of the best kinds of company in the
pharmaceutical industry in Bangladesh manufacturing branded generic products for local and
overseas market in Asia, Africa and CIS region. HPL adopting the most recent technology to
formulate and to produce generic formulation ensuring optimum quality compared to the
international brands.HPL is now producing more than two hundred products for its own with
various types of dosage forms which include Tablets, Capsules, Liquids, Dry syrups, Cream &
Ointments, Gels, Small Volume Parenterals, Eye Drops and etc. covering almost all therapeutic
classes where a lot of products are in the launching pipeline.

Healthcare Pharmaceuticals limited is engaged with strategic marketing process which involves
building customer relationships by creating and delivering superior customer value aiming to
produce high customer equity. HPL successfully and efficiently blending skilled people,
resources, organizational structure and decisions for implementing strategies at all levels. It is
continuously creating innovative idea to its every step of operation to add distinctiveness and
competitiveness to the products and services.

1.2 History

Healthcare started its operation in 1988 through establishing a company named Healthcare
Distribution Limited in association with Roche (Bangladesh) Limited. Until 2001 Healthcare was
responsible for importing and distributing Roche products to the local market.Later on, in 1996
Healthcare decided to establish its own pharmaceutical plant named Healthcare Pharmaceuticals
Limited (HPL) to produce the products those are imported from Roche, Switzerland and other
local generics for indigenous market.

To preserve and improve patients health by consistently delivering high quality, safe and
effective pharmaceutical products and services that meet customer expectations across the globe
through current good manufacturing practices, state of the art technology, competent workforce
and efficient management
1.4 Vision

To be the leading pharmaceuticals company in Bangladesh in terms of expertise, innovation and


responsible entrepreneurship. HPL wants to make visible presence in international markets with
high quality products & services.
2. Aims of In-Plant training

Though, we did this training for the completion of the degree of Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons), it
gave us the real vibe of professional life. Also, this training gave us an opportunity to utilize our
academic knowledge. Moreover, we believe this training helped us to choose our professional
field and hopefully it will have a great impact when we will enter our professional life.
3. Apprehension about the HR department

HR stands for “Human Resource”. The HR department works in accordance with the laws of
labour approved by the government of Bangladesh. The core functions of the HR department are
recruitment and selection. Their main functions include- planning management, training
management, policy management and performance appraisal. Besides, this department also
conducts the orientation programs and monitors the compliances of the employees.

4. Apprehension about the Administration department
The administration department performs the administrative roles that includes,
Security management: The administration department manages all sorts of security system of
the organization. They instruct the securities to check the possessions of the gate passers
thoroughly during their entrance and their exit. This is done to ensure that the gate passers are
not carrying any harmful objects with them during their entrance and also to ensure that they are
not carrying anything from the organization intentionally or accidentally while leaving the
premises of the organization.
The securities are instructed to maintain a register containing the detailed data- time of entrance,
purpose of entrance, intended site of visit and time of exit of the gate passers. Besides, closed
circuit cameras are installed all over the premises of HPL to monitor all the activities.
For well maintenance of the security system, HPL placed electronic card punching machines
before the entrance of every important arena. HPL also has interlock door systems as a
preventive measure against contamination, consisting of two doors that are connected
electronically and only one of them can be opened at a time while the other remains closed. Any
of the two doors kept open for 60 seconds at a stretch buzzes the security alarm.
Canteen management: The supply of food, dining time and cleanliness of the dining premises
are maintained by the administration department of HPL. The department decides the regular
food menu and the daily amount of food to be served. Separate dining premises are there for the
officers and the staffs.
Site beautification: The administration department works on beautifying site by keeping the
premises of the organization clean.
Transport management: HPL has separate transportation facilities for their officers and staffs.
5. Apprehension about the Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) department
The EHS department work to protect health and safety of people and the surrounding
environment. The department trains the newly recruited staffs under them with the precautionary
measures- usage of PPE, firefighting, chemical safety, electric safety, first aid, emergency
evacuation, waste management, personal hygiene, combating diseases, occupational health
management and pest control following their SOP, on combating any unexpected casualties.
5.1 PPE
PPE are the precautionary attires that differ on the basis of the working sites. PPE includes-
safety gloves, safety masks, safety gowns, safety goggles, safety helmets, safety boots and safety
shoe covers.
5.2 Firefighting
The fire emergency drill is carried out once or twice per year. In healthcare Pharmaceuticals, the
appointed workers as firefighter, emergency rescuer and first aider are 6% each.
For ignition less than 19.5 % oxygen is required. Whenever fire breaks out any of the elements
of the fire triangle must be inhibited to stop blazing. The fire triangle includes- oxygen, fuel and
heat.
Apart from the usage of fire extinguishers, any of the three techniques of fire extinguishing- fuel
segregation, oxygen removal, heat reduction can be implemented to extinguish fire in an
inflamed area or to prevent its further spreading.
5.3 Electric safety
The EHS department of HPL maintains electric safety according to their SOP by training the
authorized personnel and as a general training step it asks the employees to not shade themselves
under electric poles during earthquakes or any natural disasters.
5.4 Emergency evacuation
The EHS department of HPL trains its employees with the procedures of emergency evacuation
required during earthquake or fire. During any emergency situation the employees are trained to
ring emergency alarms.
5.5 Waste management
Waste management includes the activities and actions required to manage the waste or
byproducts of the industry before its final disposal in the environment. The industrial byproduct
is said to be hazardous if they possess the following characteristics: Flammable, Toxic,
Cytotoxic, Oxidizer, Corrosive, Mutagenic, Eco-toxic and Infectious.
The byproducts are classified in the following classes:
 A (red): Hazardous for human body. E.g. Rejected API

 B (green): Hazardous for environment. E.g. Plastic


 C (black): Nonhazardous substances which can be recycled and reused. E.g. paper, glass
bottle etc.
5.6 Effluent Treatment Plant
Effluent Treatment Plant or ETP is one type of waste water treatment method which is
particularly designed to purify industrial waste water for its reuse and its aim is to release safe
water to environment from the harmful effect caused by the effluent.
The benefits of ETP are as follows:
 To clean industrial effluent and recycle for further use.
 To reduce the usage of fresh water.
 To preserve environment from pollution and contamination.
 To minimize the wastage.
 To reduce cost.
ETP involves different mechanism for water treatment including, chemical, biological and bio-
chemical ways to recycle water. In Healthcare Pharmaceutical Limited, ETP solely usage
biological method for effluent water treatment. The ETP mechanism is briefly described below:

Uses fecal bacteria to purify water

Clarifier Tank
Uses rack arm to isolate clarified water and sludge

Activated Carbon
Filters the clarified water from the tank and turns it into clean water.

The clean water than goes through a number of tests including pH, BOD, COD, TDS to meet the
purity criteria and then is reused.

The sludge is collected from the tank and dried in the dry bed. The dry sludge is then burned and
exposed to environment by the Prism Bangladesh.
