Statement of Purpose:
The purpose of this project is to provide information and propose a
concrete solution on one of the most common problems coming across
the farm lands of Barangay San Roque, La Paz, Tarlac. Project instigators,
born and raised in San Roque, and are fully committed to upkeep our
Barangay, were trying to discover a profitable project that will make our
own Land Owners benefit into it, by suggesting innovative ideas and
methodologies to achieve farm sustainability.

Introduction:
Every project is unique and has its own operating
environment and sets of technical requirements. As a result, the
execution of a
project is subject to numerous constraints that limit the
commencement or progression of field operations, which
invariably have significant negative impact on overall project
performance. By definition, constraints refer to any
condition, such as temporal/spatial limitations and
safety/quality concerns, which may prevent a project to
achieve its goals. Successful execution and control of a
project relies on effective identification and assessment of
the complications, hence, recommending an innovative
solution that will change the way we make use of our lands.
This proposed project will provide an overview on the difficulties of Barangay San Roque’s land owners with a
detailed reference regarding a conceptual framework in managing our own land, using our own local resources.

RELEVANCE:
Project masterminds were genuinely produced by our Barangays through our
own core values and traditions. Both witnessed how difficult it is to manage
a land without a substantial water supply. One of the problems of our
barangay, especially in the further most area is lack of water supply to
support farming. Several hopeful individuals, in the past, thought of brilliant
ideas but ended up delivering nothing except for hopes due to financial
squatness. As the years gone by, an eye-opening opportunity knocked into
the our prime mover’s path. While still in the process of nurturing the ground
breaking concomitant, both, mutual in core values, pledge a commitment to
include the community in what they called a “two-way” beneficial system,
with a visualization of keeping Barangay San Roque’s constituents be more
productive in a cost efficient manner. Having faith in what we believe that a
person or an organization’s growth is measured on how the community
whom they belong progresses. Our people, Our Land, Our profit!

PROJECT PROPOSAL:
Barangay San Roque’s own MAN&WIFE TRUCKING SERVICES, in association with B’s 5 P’s CONSTRUCTION
MATERIALS TRADING humbly presents:
PROJECT “CASE MADE”
Choose, Aspire, Scale, Evolve Mobilize, Accelerate, Develop, Extend
By: CABAEL
SUMMARY:
The instigators adopted the explored elements that set successfully innovative organization apart from their less
innovative counterparts. The project consists of remedies to obtain farm sustainability while in the process of
development. The project spearheads thought of something innovative from their field of endeavors, using it for
the community’s greater good. CASE MADE project is derived from a research where academic scholars identified
eight essential elements of innovation success: Choose, Aspire, Scale, Evolve, Mobilize, Accelerate, Discover, and
Extend. We believed that there is no proven formula for innovation success, but, it is arguable that there is a
strong correlation between these essential elements and success. An organization that strives to apply these
essentials to their unique situation can improve their probability of sparking innovation within the company.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR AGRIBUSINESS?

In search for a solution to Barangay San Roque’s land owners’ problem, an article stood out of the project
creator’s consideration, this is about creating strategic clarity. One of the keys to clarity was having an
innovation strategy. The article emphasizes the importance of agriculture innovators, they are the ones
reshaping the industry from suburban farming, to niche market creators

In particular, it seems that the wave of mergers and acquisitions we have in agriculture today is indicative of an
industry struggling to find organic growth in a commodity market. For established company this is a dangerous
time. Established firms often struggle to think outside the box and have become accustomed to winning through
better execution and business optimization. There is certainly nothing wrong with striving for better execution.
However, we must be careful not to ignore potential disruptive innovations that could make us obsolete. This
project provides us a good framework for thinking about how we can make innovation a crucial part of our
business culture.

The first four essentials in the innovation operating system identify the business conditions where innovation is
more likely to thrive:

Aspire – The company will have a clear innovation vision, require growth contributions directly from innovation,
and have clear cascading targets and accountabilities across the firm related to innovation.
Choose – The company will have clearly articulated innovation themes that result in a portfolio of innovation
projects that balance timeframe and risk profile with sufficient funding and governance to allow strong ideas to
win.
Discover – The company’s new ideas will come from having a core focus sustainability, involve multiple people
with varying insights, and be keen on identifying a differentiated value proposition from competitors.

Evolve – The company will embrace changes in business models, value-chain dimensions, diversified profit
streams making the community more productive.
In agribusiness, one clear trend in innovation is the digitization of the industry and the potential it has to
redefine business models and value chain partners. The project creators stepped outside the box and initiated a
project proposal that will involved the community with their work. Considering the following: How is your firm
looking at these innovations and how it may affect your firm’s place in the value chain in the future. Are there
opportunities for you to set the expectations for your company that will allow farm owners to embrace
innovative ides? Do you have a team dedicated to thinking about new ways to innovate your products, services,
or processes to address this changing environment?

The last four essentials in the project’s innovation operating system identified the mechanisms for delivering
and organizing innovation to become an engine that contributes value consistently over time.

Accelerate – The company will consistently beat the competition to innovation by having rigorous planning and
execution with cross-functional projects focused on both customer and market-based learning.
Scale – The company will be able to launch innovation at the right scale for the relevant markets and segments
by having a clear go-to-market strategy that manages the launch and understands the operations ramp-up.
Extend – The company will enhance innovation success by embracing strategic external networks. This will
require the company to have keen collaboration skills and be recognized as a partner of choice for other firms in
the value chain looking to innovate.
Mobilize – The company will organize its people, processes, and culture to create a learning and adaptive
organization where people are clearly motivated and rewarded to innovate repeatedly.
The clear message here is that for a farmer or an organization to enhance its innovation success, it has to be
intentional about the people, processes, and culture it puts in place. The traditional farming is structured to focus
on efficiency and operations. Shifting the mentality and culture of our organizations to win in the marketplace
through innovation is not an easy task. The farming industry in our Barangay is built on consistency, tradition and
relationships. We want to be careful when we try new things not to “mess up” those elements of our past success.
Nevertheless, we should also be quick to recognize that the history of agriculture has been one of innovations—
some of which have profoundly changed the industry, leaving our Mother land behind in the process. As our
industry searches for the next disruptive value creator, we would be wise to take heed of the eight essentials this
project has identified and look for ways to incorporate them into our companies to allow us a better chance to be
a participant in that next wave of value creation. Let this project be our first, and certainly not the last.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPOSED ACTION PLAN:

1.) PROVISION OF ALTERNATIVE WATER SOURCE
 The project designers started from the root cause of one problem, “lack of water supply’.
 The proposed solution is to dig down to the depth of natural water reservoir (SIBOL) level. Utilizing
their Company’s (Hauling and Quarrying) resources and equipment.
 The project designers nominated an area in Flood Control area (Bayang Tangisan) as water source.
Coordinates of the location will be discussed upon review.
 In order to achieve the first project, the project coordinator wishes to established an access road

from the main road (control road) going to the proposed “water source” location.

2.) INTRODUCTION OF INTEGRATED FISH AND AZOLLA FARMING (TO PROVIDE FARMERS FEED FOR THEIR
LIVE STOCK)
Brief description of azolla and its benefits:
 Azolla (Azolla pinnata), also known as water fern, is a free-floating aquatic plant that forms clumps
and is characterized by short branches, slender roots, and is coated with tiny hairs that help keep
the plant afloat.
 It can be found throughout the Philippines, particularly in stagnant waters such as pools and
ponds.
 While it may look like an ordinary water fern, azolla is actually packed with vitamins that can be
beneficial to livestock when consumed.
 “Azolla is a genus of seven species of aquatic ferns in the family Salviniaceae. It is packed
with proteins, essential amino acids, vitamins like vitamin A, vitamin B12, and beta-
carotene, growth promoter intermediaries and minerals,” said Flaire Mejares Maundo, an
entrepreneur.
 Azolla has low lignin content. So animals easily digest. It is observed that Feeding Azolla to
poultry birds improves the weight of broiler chicken and increases the egg production of
layers birds.
 In animals, it showed an overall increase of milk yield by 15–20% when 1.5–2 Kg of Azolla
was combined with regular feed. This experiment was conducted in the Natural Resources
Development Project at Vivekananda Kendra.
 We can feed Azolla to sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits, and fish.
 BIOFERTILIZER. Azolla fixes atmospheric nitrogen and store in leaves. Therefore, it is used as
a green manure. It has been observed and appreciated by rice farmers that they cultivate
Azolla in paddy farms and increase rice production by 20%.
 WEED CONTROL. Azolla plant can form a thick layer on water surfaces, so it uses for weed
control in paddy farms. In paddy farms, Azolla forms a thick layer and covers all farm areas
and works as organic mulching, which doesn’t allow producing weed. Also, it slows the water
evaporation rate and maintains soil moisture for a long time.
*All information were gathered through comprehensive internet search. The creator encourages everyone to use the internet as an
unlimited source of knowledge.
Proposed Methodologies:
 The project designers incorporated their line of work in order to execute the proposed project.
 Fish and Azolla grows together in this Fish farming unit. Azolla is growing in the small pond built
around the large Fish pond.
 The first step is to create a fish and azolla pond by excavating a land with a desired depth and
width.
 The key is to select a partially shaded area because Azolla needs 30% sunlight; too much sunlight
will destroy the plant. The area under the tree is preferable.
 Excavate the soil for the pond and level the soil; after that, spread the plastic sheet around the

ground to prevent water loss. Make sure the plastic is submerged at least 20 CM Deep. This can
be done by hoisting plastic in the pond’s edges (soil part). Another method is to create a 20cm
deep azolla pond around the fish pond. For 18 meter pond, it can feed an approximately 4000 fish
in every harvest.
 Azolla needs Phosphorus to grow well you can use Super Phosphate along with cow dung slurry.
Cow dung increases the available nutrients. Use cow dung 4-5 days old.
 After 2-3 days, add Azolla culture in the pond by gently rubbing Azolla in your hands. It helps
break Azolla into smaller pieces for faster multiplication.
 After two-week start of harvesting, form a pond of 8M X 4M size, you can harvest an
approximately 3kg Azolla each day. Enough to sustain sustainability in feeding suburban farming
livestock.
