1. INTRODUCTION:
1.1 PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Eni Tunisia BV intends to construct an onshore gas-processing facility plant as part of Maamoura & BARAKA
offshore fields development Project.
Hydrocarbon gas and liquids brought onshore via two subsea pipelines will be treated at an onshore gas-
processing facility at MAAMOURA Point. Liquids (condensate and LPG) will be separated, processed and
stored. The produced sales gas and after treatment (acid gas removal, dehydration, wobbe Index control) will be
transported via pipeline to a tie-in point to an existing 10” pipeline north west of Hammamet, owned by STEG,
the National Electricity and Gas Company.
The onshore gas-processing facility will be designed for a nominal design life of 20 years, with an approximate
processing capacity of 0.85 MMSm3/day gas and associated liquids around 2000 m3/day, obtained through the
installation of one single train. The CPF will serve the following purposes:
- Associated wet gas will be sweated by gas acid removal, dehydrated, and stripped of heavy hydrocarbons to
sales quality specifications and compressed prior to be exported;
- Condensate and LPG will be recovered and stored prior to be sold and transferred by trucking.
- The produced water and the water used for oil washing is collected and treated in a suitable waste water
treatment plant before to be transported by truck for injection in Belli Water disposal well.
- Utilities and buildings will be constructed to support base operations.
The object of this specification is to define the schedule of soil investigation related to the project “Gas
Processing center” to realize on behalf of the Company Eni - Tunisia S.p.a; within the area of El Maamoura (Cap
bon - Tunisia). This document defines also the conditions of realization of corresponding works.
The projected Center Process Facilities will be built on a land located at approximately 2km in the south of the
Tazarka village. And fed by gas coming from the offshore production sites known as “Maamoura and Baraka”
via 2 offshore lines.

2. CONSISTENCY OF WORK:
The geotechnical investigations have the aim of determining the soil mechanical characteristics, for the civil
engineering study of the project, they will allow in particular:
- The choice of the foundation mode of the various installations (Tanks, Equipments, Buildings, Pipe
racks…), and the dimensioning of the foundations.
- The choice of the structure of the roadway according to the class of the supporting ground.
They will in addition allow studying the conditions of trenches execution and re-employment of excavation
materials coming from these trenches of inlets pipelines.
In situ tests:
- The realization of five (05) pits for soil characteristics investigation of 2 m depth each, at a rate of one pit
each 500 m along the inlet pipelines route; the soil temperature measurement in the wells and the realization
of measurements of the ground resistivity according to method of “WENNER”. The water level shall be
indicated if any.
- The realization of three (03) pits for soil characteristics investigation within the platform area for the access
roads and the internal roadways; this investigation is to be carried out by drilling the ground with auger or
manually for a depth of 1 m. From each pit, one sample shall be taken for laboratory tests (identification and
Proctor tests and CBR),
- The realization of two borehole drillings: one drilling shall be of 15 m depth placed to the compression unit
location, the second one shall be of 10 m depth placed to flare location. Intact ground samples from each
drilling will be taken to be subject of tests at the laboratory (identification and mechanical tests).
- SPT Tests (standard penetration test) will be carried out in the borehole at a rate of one test every 3 to 4 m
depth with at least one at each strata change.
- The realization of two drillings with pressure measuring tests: One drilling of 15 m depth placed to the
compression unit location, the second one shall be of 10 m depth placed to flare location. Pressure
measuring tests will be carried out in these drillings at each meter progress.
- The realization of twelve (12) static penetration tests to determine the mechanical resistance of the ground
for the installations other than compressor unit and flare. The equipment will be thorough until 10 m in
depth, except if a refusal is obtained before this depth.

on site:
Granulometric Analyzes by sifting and Sedimentary for the particles of size lower than 80 µ.
Water content,
Limits of Atterberg,
Equivalent sand,
Density of the fine grained soils,

carbonates, chloride and out of gypsum), degree of aggressiveness.
- Chemical analyzes of the drillings water: PH, dry residue, contents of chlorides (Cl-) and sulfates (SO4--),
degree of aggressiveness.
- The realization, on the samples taken during the platform soil exploration pits, of bearing pressure tests
CBR (dry and after 4 days absorbing) and of PROCTOR tests;
Drillings layout drawings produced will be communicated to the company before the commencement of works.
These drawings must be annexed to the geotechnical report which will be delivered after the work.

The company undertakes to complete the work object of this consultation in accordance with the
recommendations of the standards in force. He assures the perfection of the work conditions in order to ensure
the reliability of the results of the investigations. The company must be equipped with the material and necessary
tools to make a success of the programmed investigation, and before starting the mechanical tests envisaged, he
should provide to company ENI - Tunisia, the calibration certificates of the various measuring devices.
The tests must be realized with the greatest care, in accordance with the recommendations of the standards in
force.
- Maximum lengths of coring passes must be compatible with the materials nature. The use of the diamond
drill is required where hard formations are met.
- Coring in sands must be carried out by means of the adequate tools guaranteeing the maximum of recovery
(XP P 94-202 appendix C: choice of the sampling technique).
- Intact test sample selection must be carried out in accordance with the regulations of the standards in force;
in particular, for the fine cohesive soils very soft with farms, only stationary piston sampler and thin-walled
piston are authorized. The use of simple pistons is formally prohibited for the intact sampling object of the
mechanical tests in laboratory.
- Pressure measuring tests must be realized in accordance with the recommendations of standard NF P 94-
110.
- Methods of realization of Pressure measuring drillings depend on the nature of the soil, their state and the
presence of the water table. The drilling company must have the adequate means, to being able to guarantee
the maintaining of the drilling walls with the minimum of reshuffle.
- Maximum lengths of the drillings made before tests must be in conformity with the recommendations of the
standards in force (APPENDIX C of standard NF P 94-110). As an indication, for fairly compact clays, like
for the loose silts and sands under the water table, the maximum lengths of drillings before tests should not
exceed 3m.
- Before the starting of the Pressure measuring tests, the drilling company shall make sure of the state of the
measuring equipment; calibration tests must be realized at the beginning of any work station, with each
change of configuration of the pressure measuring probe and each time a modification of connection
between the controller pressure-volume and the probe intervenes.
