TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

A. Preparation (5minutes)

“Good Morning Class… “

“Good Morning Sir “
“How’s your day my dear students?’’’
‘’’It’s Good Sir…””
‘’It’s nice to hear that! Before anything else,
may I request everyone to please stand for a (Students follow what their teacher requested
prayer to be lead by Russel. to them)

Russel: “Let us all out ourselves in the presence

of the Lord as we say, in the name of the
Father and of the son and the holy spirit.
Amen.

“Our Father ……”””

(Everyone is Praying)
“Thank you Russel. Before you may take your
seats, kindly pick up some pieces of paper
under your armchair and after that, please go
back to your permanent seat because I will
check your attendance according to your seat “Yes Sir.” (Students go back to their proper
plan. seats)

Who can recall on what we had discussed last

meeting? Yes, Jofith?
Jofith: Last meeting we discussed about
Chords.
What is Chords?
Zyra: Chords of a circle is a straight line
segment whose endpoints both lie on the
circle.

Very good Zyra

B. Motivation (5 minutes)

“This morning we will discuss another lesson

but before we will proceed to our proper
discussion let us have first an activity. I will
divide the class into two teams. This side will
be the Team A and the other side will be the
Team B.

Okay, are you familiar with the game “BRING

ME”?

The instruction is you will bring the objects

that I will ask from you and anyone from the
group who can bring the exact object to me,
each group member will get 5 points each. You “Yes Sir.”
will only be given a maximum of 1 minute to
find the particular object.

Are you ready?

Objects to bring: “Okay Sir.”

 Botton
 Coins
 Circular bracelets “Yes Sir!!!”
 Round strip of paper
 Circular plate
 Cover of Circular food container or any
container (Students provide the objects)
 Water bottle cap

The winner is..... Thank you for your

cooperation class! Let’s give ourselves a VIVA
applause!
(Students do the VIVA applause.)

C. Presentation

From the activity that we have done what do

you think is our lesson for today? Anyone?

Yes Rowel?

Brilliant idea, so our topic for today is all about

circles, but we will not just discuss what a
circle is, we will also discuss the terms related
to a circle and its parts.

( Rowel is raising his hand)

D. Discussion Proper Student: I think it’s about circles Sir.

(20 minutes)

Let’s discuss first what a circle is. Anyone who

has idea if what a circle is?

Yes Shaira? Okay very good!

That is one of the definitions of a circle.

In other words, a circle is the set of all points

in a plane that are the same distance from a
fixed point called the center.
Shaira: For me, a circle is a perfectly round
I have here a circle, what do you see inside shape.
the circle? Yes Sabino?
Okay, there is a point at the center of the
circle, this point is called the center or the
central point. Circles are named through their
central point. So, what is the name of this
circle?
Very good!
Sabino: I can see a point located at the center
Next is the radius. What is a radius? of the circle.

Based on the definition who can draw a radius

in circle A? Okay Cadiz.

Students: Circle A Sir.

Very good Cadiz!

Students: A radius is a line segment joining the
If we write B on the other end of the radius center and a point on the circle.
then we have now segment AB as the radius of B
circle A.

All radii in a circle have equal length. Radii is

the plural form for radius. The other part of a
circle is diameter. What is a diameter?

A diameter divides the circle into two equal

parts. Also, the measurement of the diameter
is twice the measurement of the radius and
the central point is the midpoint of the
diameter. Anyone who can draw a diameter in
the circle?

Students: Diameter is a line segment that

passes through the center of the circle.

(Students are raising their hands)

Yes Rhea?
B
…… D

C
If we write C and D at the endpoints of the
diameter then we have segment CD as the
diameter of circle A. Let’s say, the radius of
circle A is 4 cm how long is the diameter of the
circle? Yes Regilyn?
Regilyn: The diameter is 8 cm Sir
Very good!

The next part of a circle is chord. What is a

chord?

Students: A chord is a line segment whose

endpoints are on a circle.

Let’s draw a chord in the circle

.A
C

We have segment CE as an example of a

chord. So, now I have a question, are all
diameters considered as chords and are all
chords considered as diameters? Come think
of it class.

Yes Zydel!
Zydel: Apparently, all diameters are considered
as chords but not all chords are considered as
diameters because not all chords passes
through the center of the circle.

Anyone who can draw a secant in the circle?

Yes Abijah?
Abijah: A secant is any line, ray, or segment
that contains a chord. It is a line that intersects
a circle in two points.

E
D
Very Good Abijah. We have line DE as an
example of a secant.

Then, another term related to a circle is

tangent. What is a tangent?

Who can give me the tangent of circle A?

Liddell please. Students: It is a line that intersects a circle at
exactly one point.

E
D
Very Good Liddell. The point where a tangent
line touches or intersects the circle is called
the point of tangency.

From the illustration, what is the point of

tangency? Yes Dan?
Dan: Point B sir.
Very Good. So, these are the parts of a circle.
Do you have any questions? Clarifications?

Students: None Sir.

E. Drill/Enrichment Activities
(5 minutes)
“To further enhance your knowledge, let’s do
some more examples.”

Please look at the figure in the screen and

read the instructions carefully.

From the illustration, name or identify all

chords, diameter, radii, secant, tangent, point
of tangency and the center of the circle.

asked them.)

F. Application (10 minutes)

Before we will proceed to our next activity,

can you sight any experience of yours on how
circles are used in our daily lives? Yes Ashley?

Ashley: For me sir, circle is used in our daily

lives like the different things that we used in
Very good Ashley! Anyone who has another our house like clocks, circular plates, circular
idea to share? tables and chairs.

Very Good class. You really understand our (students share their insights
lesson for this morning.

At this very moment, you are going to apply

what you have learned to real-life situations.
We will have another activity. I’m going to
divide you into four groups. Please count 1 to
4 starting from you Radjian.

Group 1 stay here, Group 2 stay there, Group 3

stay on that side, and Group stay on the other
side. Transfer silently class and don’t
disarrange the chairs. (The students are counting.)
Are you now in your group class?
“Okay sir”
I have here a problem: An electronic and
communication engineer designed a circular
disk to be put up in a call center building.
Before he installs the disk, he let his men “Yes Sir.”
check the disk and its parts. Supposed, I am
the engineer and you are my working men,
what are now the parts of the circular disk?
Identify the radius, chord, diameter, secant
and tangent given the figure

You will be only given 5 minutes to do the

task.

Your time starts now.

Okay time is up. May I call on the

representative of group 1 to please stand and
tell us what you’ve done? The rest of the
group please listen and check your answers.

Geneisa: Our Group’s answer is

G. Abstraction/Generalization
(3 minutes)
chord diameter radii secant tangent
So, who will give now the recap of the things s
that we have discussed today? DG HF AH BD BJ
HF AF
Excellent Keith! The point where a tangent line
touches or intersects the circle is called the
point of tangency.

Keith: As a recap, a circle is the set of all points

So, you know already the parts or the terms in a plane that are the same distance from a
related to a circle? fixed point called the center. The parts of a
circle are center or central point, radius,
diameter, chord, secant and tangent.
Are you now ready for a test?

Students: Yes, Sir.

Students: Yes, Sir.

IV. ASSESSMENT (10 minutes)

On a 1/4 piece of paper, draw a circle with a center B, with two diameters namely, segments
AC, and DF, whose chords are AC, DF, CF, and DG, a secant HI, and tangent JK intersecting A.
(By pair)

V. ASSIGNMENT (2 minutes)

Study in advance about central angle, inscribed angle, and arcs of a circle.
