I. Introductory Concept
Philippines has a wide variety of colorful activities that promote artistry and
cultural appreciation among the Filipino people. These events are celebration of the
country’s culture and tradition and one of the ways of discovering and celebrating the
roots of our identity and creativity.
Festivals and theatrical presentations are among the cultural activities that
showcase the Filipino talents. From Luzon to Visayas and down to the Southern tip on
Mindanao, various festivals and theatrical performances are celebrated and performed
to express religiosity, creativity, awareness and appreciation of culture and arts. These
festivals and theatrical forms have common and unique visual characteristics that
fascinate both local and foreign tourists. Among the unique characteristics of these
cultural activities are the creative use of arts elements and principles of designs.
In the previous learning activity modules, art elements and principles of designs
are described as important factors that contribute to the colorful celebration of Philippine
festivals and theatrical forms. Elements like color, lines, form and texture and principles
like repetition and balance are considered by Filipino artists in coming up with good
designs.
In this learning activity sheet, the learners will utilize the arts elements and
principles of design in designing their visual representation of festivals and theatre
forms through creating of costumes, props and other visual elements and components.
