INTRODUCTION
General anaesthesia involves rendering a patient
unconscious before an operation. This ensures the patient is
not aware of events and does not feel pain during the
operation. It is produced by drugs given through a vein and /
or breathed from an anaesthesia machine. Regional
anaesthesia involves using a local anaesthetic drug to numb a
specific area of the body for surgery. Prolonged pain relief
without numbness can be achieved by infusing weak solution
of the local anaesthetic narcotic drug to particular parts of
the body after surgery or injury.
COMMON RISK for all patients:
 Bruising at the site of injections or drips.
 Nausea or vomiting ( although the anaesthetist will limit
or prevent this as far as possible)
 Sore throat from gases &/or the breathing tube. It may
cause temporary difficulty in speaking. This should
improve after some hours.
 Temporary muscle pain, headache or blurred vision.
UNCOMMON RISK to all patients:
 Awareness of activity in the operation room during
anaesthesia, particularly during certain operations and in
some emergency situations.
 Eye abrasions causing pain & requiring treatment with
medication & patching.
 Damage to teeth / dental work, lips or tongue.
EXTREMELY RARE RISK for ALL patients:
These may cause brain damage or Death & includes:
 Obstruction in the breathing passage that cannot be
readily controlled. These can lead to severe difficulty with
breathing.
 Allergy to drugs causing wheezing and rash and in rare
case, severe swelling, low blood pressure & poor
circulation.
 Inherited muscle sensitivity to particular anaesthetic drugs
(malignant hyperthermia). This can cause a rapid rise in
temperature, heart rate & breathing with high blood
pressure & muscle rigidity.
 Heart attack, strokes & pneumonia. While these are
uncommon, the risk is higher for patient with the diseases
of the arteries or lungs and in smokers.
REGIONAL ANAESTHESIA :

passing urine for a lower body block while anaesthesia is

पररचय
सामान्य बहधरीकरणामध्ये शस्त्रहिया करण्यापूर्वी रुग्णाला बेशुद्ध करणे
समाहर्वष्ट असते. हे सु हनहित करते की रुग्णाला घटने ची जाणीर्व नसते आहण
शस्त्रहिये दरम्यान र्वे दना होत नाही. हे रक्तर्वाहहनीद्वारे हदलेल्या औषधां द्वारे
आहण / हकंर्वा भू ल दे ण्याच्या उपकरणाद्वारे श्वासामार्णत घे तलेल्या औषधाने
केले जाते . प्रादे हशक बहधरीकरणामध्ये शस्त्रहिये साठी शरीराच्या हर्वहशष्ट
भाग/ क्षे त्राला सु न्न करण्यासाठी स्थाहनक बहधरीकरण र्वापरणे समाहर्वष्ट असते.
शल्यहिया हकंर्वा दु खापती नं तर शरीराच्या हर्वहशष्ट भागार्वर स्थाहनक भू ल
दे णायाण यमादक औषधाच्या कमकुर्वत द्रार्वणाचा र्वापर करुन सु न्नपणा हशर्वाय
दीघण काळापयं त र्वे दना कमी करता ये ते.
सर्व रूग्णां नण सणमणन्य जोखीम:
 इं जेक्शन्स हकंर्वा डरीपच्या जागी जखम
 मळमळ हकंर्वा उलट्या (जरी भू ल दे णारा तज्ञ हे शक्यहततके मयाण हदत
हकंर्वा प्रहतबंहधत करे ल)
 र्वायू मुळेआहण / हकंर्वा श्वासोच्छर्वासाच्या कृहत्रम ट्यूबमु ळे घसा खर्वखर्वणे .
यामु ळे बोलण्यात तात्पु रती अडचण ये ऊ शकते. काही तासां नंतर यात
सु धारणा झाली पाहहजे .
 तात्पु रते स्नायू दु खणे, डोकेदु खी हकंर्वा अं धुकदृष्टी
सर्व रूग्णां नण असणमणन्य जोखीम:
 बहधरीकरणा दरम्यान शस्त्रहिया कक्षातील गहतहर्वहधबद्दल जागरूकता,
हर्वशेषत: हर्वहशष्ट शस्त्रहिये दरम्यान आहण काही आपत्कालीन पररस्स्थतीत.
 डोळा खाजर्वणे ज्यामु ळे र्वे दना होते आहणऔषधे र्व पॅहचं गद्वारे
उपचारआर्वश्यकअसतात.
 दात/दं तकाम, ओठ हकंर्वा जीभ यां चे नु कसान.
सर्व रूग्णां सणठीअत्यांत दु र्मव ळजोखीम:
या मु ळे में दूचे नु कसान होऊ शकते हकंर्वा मृ त्यू होऊ शकतो आहण यात
समाहर्वष्ट आहे ेः
 श्वसनमागाण त मध्येअडथळा जो सहजपणे हनयं हत्रत केल्या जाऊ शकत
नाही. यामु ळे श्वास घे ण्यास तीव्रअडचण ये ऊ शकते.
 औषधां च्या एलजीमु ळे घरघरआहण पुरळ आहण क्वहचत प्रसं गी गंभीर सू ज,
कमी रक्तदाब आहण अपुरे रक्ताहभसरण.
 हर्वहशष्ट भू ल दे णारी औषधां साठी आनु र्वंहशक स्नायूं ची सं र्वेदनशीलता
(घातकहायपरथहमण या ). या मु ळे उच्च रक्तदाबआहण स्नायूं च्या कडकपणा
सह तापमान, हृदयगतीआहण श्वासात तीव्र र्वाढ होऊ शकते.
 हृदयहर्वकाराचा झटका, स्ट्रोक आहणन्यू मोहनया हे असामान्य असले तरी
धमन्या हकंर्वा र्ुफ्फुसां च्या आजार असलेल्या रुग्णां ना आहण धूम्रपान
करणायां ह नाजास्त धोकाअसतो.
प्रणदे र्िक बर्धरीकरण:
र्वर सू चीबद्ध केलेले काही जोखीम आहण बरे च इतर समाहर्वष्ट आहे तेः
 भू ल दे ताना अं गात स्नायू कमकुर्वत होणे हकंर्वा भू ल कायण रत असताना
लघर्वी करण्यास त्रास होणे . औषधां चा प्रभार्व कमी झाल्या मु ळे हे सामान्य

 working. While this return to normal as the drugs effect
wear off, a temporary urinary catheter may be necessary.
 Headache, which is usually short lived but can be severe
and lasts some days.
 Damage to nearby blood vessels or organs e.g. Lungs.
 Backache may follow spinal or epidural anaesthesia. This
usually improves quickly, but occasionally can be lasting.
 There is a very small risk of infection or bleeding at the
injection site, which may requires antibiotic or surgical
treatment.
 Rarely, nerves may be damaged resulting in long term
weakness, pain, altered sensation or paralysis.

Risks of not having this procedure
There may be consequences if patient choose not to have the
proposed anaesthesia. Please discuss these with patients
doctor/healthcare professional.
