Discussion:

The first account revealed that times in the mid-part of the 18th century, there was a man
named "Adlawan". Hw settled with his family in a place known "Majanod". As time gradually passed
by, his children married and inter-married among the settlers. The palce of "Majanod" and "Matnog"
were consolidated adopting the latter's name.

"Matnog" then was the name of the place. Sailors traversing the vast Pacific Ocean from the
north to the south or back cannot reach their destination in just one day. So, they should have to
find a place somewhere for a rest. They found out "Matnog" or "Majanod" to be a safe place due to
geographical location as such as they head towards "Marnog" their leaders would usually command
" matnog it dolong" which means "prow must point to matnog". This practice became common
among sailors themselves and their leaders shortened its by simply saying "MAYDOLONG". Sailors
as well as Chinese traders adapted the name "Maydolong". And finally, the priest himself who came
from Borongan to officiate the first mass on this place called "MAYDOLONG" hen upon dedimbraking
from the boathe shouted "Salamar Maydolong na!"

• The second historical account affirmed the existence of a place called ""Matnog".

• The change of the name"Matnog"to "Maydolong" happened on the early part of the 19th
century.

• It was told that during these time, the most popular game of the people was called
""Sabunot"or"Dulong" whixh is actuallly a cruse wrestling.

• During the early part of the 1900's, immediate after the restoration of peace in the island province od
Samar preceding the mock Philippine-America Revolution
• The American Government in the island established the Municipal Dustrict of Tagasli-an(currently
upstream barangay of Maydolong)
• The said district has a southern extension to the limitsod barrios Can-Ato,Aras-Aras( Burak) and
Magtino of the Municipality of Llorente.
• In the east, Tagasli-an is bounded by the barrio of Balogo, its sitios of Gadgaran and Humalag and
direct in straight to Can-Ato
• In north, it is bounded by the barrio of Canloterio,Kamanongdong by the territorial limits of the
Municipal of Basey Samar.

• From among several reasons or perhaps due the difficulty of administration and supervision,
the Provincial Administration deemed it necessary to discontinue the maintenance od said
district, thus transferrin in the supervision to the Municipality of Borongan.

• For over Four(4) decades, the settlement outside the northern boundary of Llorente became
barrio of Borongan.

• Until after several attempts to convert barrio Maydolong into a separate town the Third
Congress of the Philippines converted Maydolong into a Municipality R.A 609 was finally
enacted, passed on May 1, 1951 embodying the Municipal Chapter of Maydolong.

• This eventually realized through the initiative of local leaders such as the late Sebastian
Montes Sr. and the first appointed Mayor of Maydolong, Hon Ventura Ladiao.

• Citations worthy for the late Cong. Gregorio Abogado who filed the bill in congress that
ushered to tje creation of the town of Maydolong

• Several chronological events are here noteworthy that shaped or reshaped the Municipality
of Maydolong.

• R.A 609 incorporated the barrios of Balogo,Maybocog,Omawas, Tagasli-

an,Kampakirit,Suribao,Mayburak,Kanmanongdong,Malobago and Canloterio.

• Felix Montes was reelected under the 1987 constitution (1988-1992)

• During the 1992 synchronized elections, Leo D. Azura Sr. served for one 3-year term (1992-
1995) under the Local Government Code of 1991 ( R.A 7160)

• Felix Montes served as Mayor for two terms until 2001

• Daniel Baldono served for 3 terms (2001-2010)

• The incumbent Mayor is Hon. Henry M. Afable who will be serving the 2010-2013 term.

• After R.A 2181 was passed creating the Municipality of Balangkayan

• R.A 2891 was subsequently passed transferring the barrio Balogo and the sitio of Tabi to the
Municipality of Balangkayan

• Ventura Ladiao (Aug. 15, 1951- Dec. 30, 1955) was appointed to head the first Municipal
Council ans was duly elected to the same position after the election was conducted.

• Crispin Ambida ( 1956-1964) was duly succeeded

• Victorino Ditalo (1964-1968

• Crispin Ambida again (1968-1972)

• Felix Montes (1972-1986)
