ESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7

Polygons
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. identify the parts of a polygon;
2. demonstrate the different parts of the polygon; and
3. discuss how their knowledge on parts of a polygon can be applied in their
everyday lives.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Polygons
Subtopic: Parts of a Polygon

B. Materials: Computer Desktop, Camera and Tablet
C. Values: Creativity, Being Resourceful
III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity
A. Preliminary Activity
1.Greetings:

Good morning class.

The student will say, Good morning sir!
How’s your day, students?
The student will say, It’s good, sir!
Good to hear that.

2.Prayer:

Okay Class, before we start let’s pray. Let’s

bow our heads and feel the presence of God.
(The teacher will lead the short prayer.)

3.Classroom Management
(The teacher will present the Classroom
Management Rules)
During the discussion please turn off your
microphone and camera and once I call your
name or if you want to answer or ask a
question kindly click the raise hand button.

Another thing, please avoid unnecessary

noises to avoid distraction.

And lastly, Please be respectful.

Are we clear of that?

Okay, Very Good.

4. Checking of Attendance

(The teacher will call the name/s of students

who are not joining the google meet.)

5. Review The student will answer, Yes, Sir.

(Before proceeding to the lesson, the teacher

will do a short review.)

Before we proceed to a new topic, let’s recall

the lesson we talked about yesterday.

What was our topic yesterday?

Very Good! That is right.

We are not done yet talking about polygons.

There is still something that you need to know
and that something will be our topic for today.

6. Agreement
The student will answer, “yesterday, during
asynchronous, we talked about regular and
At the end of the lesson, the student should be irregular polygons as well as the convex and
able to: concave polygons.”
1. identify the parts of a

B. Motivation

Okay, class, let us have first a motivational

activity.

(The teacher will use an educational

application named educaplay. )

The students are answering the motivational
activity.
Direction: Fixed the rambled letters to make a
term related to a polygon.

1. XEPA – APEX
2. XVTREE – VERTEX
3. SEBA – BASE
4. LEGAN – ANGLE
5. RRNIEIOT- INTERIOR
6. XTEIORR – EXTERIOR

Those terms are the terms that we will be

going to define later, and we will find out the
connection of those terms in a polygon.

Let’s have another activity.

C. Activity

Direction: Find a partner. Communicate with

your partner through a messenger. Do the task
together.

your answer in the chatbox include your name
and your partner, then your answers.

The students will do the activity.

D. Analysis

(The teacher will start the discussion.)

Let’s now start discussing the parts of a

polygon.

PARTS OF A POLYGON
A polygon has six parts. They are apex, side,
base, vertex, internal angles, and external
angles.

Apex- Once you have selected the base line of

your polygon, the vertex opposite that base line
is called the apex.
Base- For any given polygon, one of the sides
can be distinguished as being the base. It is not
particularly important which one is chosen.
The usual practice is that when you draw a
polygon, the side that is horizontal or closest to
horizontal is considered to be the base.
Vertex- A vertex typically means a corner or
point where two lines meet. In polygons the
amount of vertices depend on the amount of
sides your polygon has.
Side- Sides are the line segments that form the
polygon.
Interior angles- The interior angle of a
polygon is found by joining two vertices. It is
key that these two vertices are next to each
other. This angle opens toward the center of
the polygon.
Exterior angle- It is formed by extending one
side through its vertex. It opens on the outside
of the polygon.

These are the six parts of polygon that you

need to remember. Let’s have an example of
polygon and let’s identify each part.

Based on the figure above, which is the apex?

Why do you say so?

Very good. That is correct. If point A is the

apex, then what is the base?

Good job. That is right. How about the sides

and vertex?

Excellent. How about the interior and exterior

angles?

The students will answer, “the point A, sir.”

“Based on the definition, point A is the vertex

opposite the base.”

Very good students.

The students will answer, “the base is the line
segment BC.”
Do you have any questions regarding the parts
of a polygon?
The students will answer, “there are three
sides, sir. Those are line segments AB, BC, and
CA. At the same time, the vertices are points
A, B, and C.”

The students will answer, “the interior angles

are ∠ A , ∠B , and ∠ C , while ∠ ABDis the
exterior angle.”

“None, sir.”
E. Abstraction

(The teacher will ask the questions)

Who can enumerate the six parts of a polygon

to wrap us everything?

polygon are the apex, base, vertex, sides,
interior, and exterior angles.”

The students will answer, “apex is the vertex

the polygon that touches the ground (or

formed by the two sides connected. The sides
are the line segments that made the polygon.
The interior angles are the angles inside the
polygon. The exterior angles are the angles

extended.”

answer this question.)

Very good, my students. Just like studying the

parts of your body in your Science subject,
studying parts of a polygon will help us
understand more about how polygons work
and how they are created, especially those
objects and infrastructure around us.

Acitivity 1. Let’s get it on.

In a short bond paper, draw a polygon and

label it. Show it in class and name the different
parts of the polygon you created.
