14 3 - PUSLE TM INSTALLATION

1 1
This chapter concerns the installation
of the black Pulse monitor system on
2 elevators equipped with flat belts. 2

A- INTRODUCTION

4 Definition & Acronyms 4

CSB — Coated Steel Belt
OFT — OTIS Field Tool 14.3
14.3
Overview

14.2 The CSB monitoring system function is to monitor the condition of the steel cords inside the CSB 14.2
continuously and to signal the car controller of the CSB status.
The CSB status is communicated as an alert or an alarm along with the monitor system health.

11 11

12 12

13 13
The OFT is not required to install the Pulse CSB Monitor or to service the Pulse CSB Monitor.
However, additional information about use of the OFT with the Pulse CSB Monitor can be found in
14 the Advanced Diagnostics and Troubleshooting Guide (AAA21700AG_RBI_ADT). 14

1 The connection of this signal in series with the elevator control system's slack rope switch / motor 1
thermal contact input will cause the elevator to respond to a Pulse alarm by stopping at the next
permissable landing, opening the doors, and shutting down (if the elevator is in motion) or by
2 opening the doors and shutting down (if the elevator is at a landing). 2

3 3

4 4

14.3 All coated steel belts, monitor connectors, shorting connectors and wiring must be installed before 14.3
power is applied. The RSL address must be set before power is applied.

Green POWER LED will illuminate when power is applied.

14.2 14.2
Red CSB LEDs should be off (assumes learn operation is not yet performed).

F- AUTOMATIC LEARN OPERATION USING LEARN SWITCH

8 8

9 9
LEARN switch

10 10

11 11
Prerequisites for learn operation:
1. all coated steel belts must be installed with proper connectors
12 2. resistance of installed coated steel belts must be within 10% 12
Press the LEARN switch five times within five seconds to initiate learn operation.
13 This automated learn operation using the LEARN switch can be performed successfully 13
only one time.

14 It is intended to be used for a new Pulse unit installed on an elevator with new coated steel belts. 14
After the learn operation is successfully completed, subsequent learn operations (if required) must
be performed using the OFT. This feature prevents the inadvertent re-learning of coated steel belt
resistance.

G- AUTOMATIC LEARN OPERATION USING OFT

1 1

IMPORTANT: performing a subsequent learn operation after completing one

2 successful learn operation will cause the earlier data to be erased and replaced 2
with the new data. THEREFORE, DO NOT PERFORM A SUBSEQUENT LEARN
OPERATION TO CORRECT A FAULT ON AN ELEVATOR THAT HAS BEEN
3 PLACED INTO SERVICE! 3

4 4
The automatic learn operation using the OFT cannot be used for an elevator that has run more
than one hundred thousand (100,000) times or for an elevator that has been in service more than 14.3
14.3 one year. Instead, follow the procedure for the manual learn operation using the OFT. The
automatic learn operation is used for an elevator when the entire set of coated steel belts is
replaced with a set of new coated steel belts.
14.2 14.2
1. Connect OFT to PULSE OFT port.
2. Access the Start Resistance Auto Learn (menu F-3-1)
7 3. Verify no learn operation is in progress 7
4. "Are new Belts Installed? (9=Y)"
5. Press 9 ONLY IF USER IS CERTAIN THAT THE COATED STEEL BELTS HAVE NO
SIGNIFICANT WEAR AND THAT A NEW LEARN OPERATION IS REQUIRED.
8 6. "Any Previous SRs Erased OK? (9=Y)" 8
7. Press 9 ONLY IF USER IS CERTAIN THAT PREVIOUS STARTING RESISTANCE
VALUES MUST BE ERASED.
9 8. "RBI System now in Learn Mode . . ." 9
9. "RBI Learn in progress"
10. "Storing Data . . . Then resetting . ."
10 Verify that the Pulse CSB Monitor is monitoring the CSBs, i.e., each CSB LED should be ON
10
steady.

Note: the RESET switch is not used to reset faults. It is used to configure and install software on
the printed circuit board.
14.2 14.2
If condition(s) that caused the fault persist, the fault will reappear after the next measurement cycle
(60 seconds).

14 3 - PUSLE TM INSTALLATION

There are several possible causes, each with a specific fault code, for an alert or an alarm. Refer
1 to Pulse Advanced Diagnostics and Troubleshooting Guide (AAA21700AG_RBI_ADT) for 1
instructions how to access the alert and alarm fault codes.
