Site location

The site is available at the eastern part of Ethiopia in dire dawa city. The city is available from
addis abab approximately around 525 km east of ethiopia. The project site is for the purpose of
residential building for dire dawa university instructors. The institute provide land for the
construction of these residential houses at Tony farm land which is located around the
university main gate.

The site consists of a number of tree fruits with access road and mown grass to the west, north,
and south of the site. Trees were located in the grass area and trees and bushes were present
around the perimeter of the site. St. Silese church and main access road is located to the west
in front of the site and the university is located to the south direction and by the east side the
Tony farm land surrounded the site and the north is surrounded by top super market, yogezu
hotel and main access road to melka jebdu is available.

Site Description

The site covers approximately 140 sqm in total and the farm land  which is an opportunity to have a
good visual and physical interaction with green access and embellishment. Normally as the site is green
considering very interesting to live. But it does provides the vibrant views to the east from the site. The
car park (approximate area 18 sqm) in front of main door by the west direction.

As We understand that the proposed project will involvpe constructing a G+1 reinforcement concrete
and masonry building with a slab-on-grade for a new residential building. Parking and drive areas and a
trash bin enclosure will also be constructed. It has been provided with structural loads, but it is
anticipated that the proposed building will have column loads of C-25.
Floor slab are anticipated to be strong and resistant to high load impact. however, based on existing
topography, we anticipate minimal cut and/or fill will be necessary to develop design grades for this site.

DEVELOPMENT DATA

 Built Up Area( sqr meters) : :140sqm  Building Coverage =140sqm

 Landscaping coverage: 140 sqm

 Number of floors + 1

 Number of Parking spaces: 1 car Parks

 Capacity of the system used.  Number people depend on the family.

 Estimated consumption:for water Estimated

 Estimated consumption for electricity

 Estimated cost of building.

Climate and weather information.

Climate condition of the city more times it is sunny and warm place. Therefore
the climate condition of the site is very hot and the temperature is around
33°/18° °c.

According to the data the season of rain is almost low and we check the direction
of the wind by scattering of powder from high high rise building. As we observed
it is from the north to the south direction.

Site investigation studies a d reports.

Before going to detail site investigation studies we have to made site observations. Site
observation is made by client, consultant, geologist, and hydrologist. The purpose of site
observation is to select the suitable site for the proposed project.

Site selection criteria.

Site selection carried out by client or consultant by considering different criteria depending on
the client or the initiator of the project as he needs.

 Accessibility like school, access of road and clinic.

Therefore, by considering all this this things we select tony farm land.

Site condition

The site is located at Tony farm land around the main gate of university. The site is currently an
abandoned farm land. The topography is relatively flat and slopes gently from the north to the
south. No buildings currently exist on site, but there is evidence of fruit trees. Approximately all
the site is covered with crop.

Scope Of Investigation:

The scope of work included the following:

 Review of available data pertinent to the site.

 Making visits to the site in order to collect information about site nature, topography of
the site, geological features and other properties concerning the project site.
 Drilling boreholes at different place and sampling of disturbed and undisturbed samples.
 Performing the necessary field and laboratory tests, and carrying out the geological
description of the obtained materials.
 Applying engineering analysis of field findings and laboratory results.
 Developing conclusions and recommendations concerning design and construction of
the most safe and economical foundations.

Geotechnical Investigation
The main purpose of Geotechnical investigation is to determine the type of foundation required for the
proposed task at the site. The foundation types are Shallow foundation and Deep foundation. To make
suggestions in regards to the safe bearing capacity or pile load capacity. At last, the subsoil gives a
definitive support to the structures.

Soil investigation

It represents to a technique for deciding physical properties of soil for a building site. This method is
finished with the point of building up whether soil is safe and strong for construction. Not until the soil
samples are investigated can a construction project start. the result of site investigation report after
engineers know the type of foundation, nature of soil and the ground water level. Then the consultant

decide the type of foundation, technologies and possible problems and solutions for the building.

Methodology of soil investigation

In our site made several soil investigation test depend on the tools type

Flood Records

Environment Agency (EA) flooding records show the Site Access area to be situated in an area
generally of very low, to low risk from flooding from rivers and surface water. It should be
noted that the area to the west of the canal has a higher risk of flooding. The report concludes
that there are relatively low risks of flooding from numerous sources in the vicinity of the
project area and recommends mitigation measures to reduce flood risk

Topographic Data.

Topography and slope should be considered when drawing up site plans for any construction project.
Consideration of the slope of the land is important to reduce construction costs, minimize risks from
natural hazards such as flooding and landslides, and to minimize the impacts of proposed development
on natural resources such as soils, vegetation, and water systems.
The topography of the site has been determined using satellite map. The Tony farm land Development
Site is predominantly flat farm land with a number of different types of vegetation. The site is roughly
‘rectangular shape’ and is bound on the east by the farm land

Excavation, borrow and quarry material.

This work consists of performing excavation and providing borrow, including the hauling, placing,
compacting, and disposing of materials. Unclassified Excavation is the removal of material within cut
sections to the subgrade. Perform excavation operations within the plan excavation limits, lines, and
grades as required by the contract.

It includes suitable, unsuitable and unstable materials other than those requiring specialized equipment
or blasting to remove depending on the characteristics of soil.

Suitable materials are those materials which can be compacted to the required subgrade densities and
meet all other contract requirements. If Suitable materials that are unstable shall be reworked (e.g.,
blended, dried, and recompacted) to create a stable platform according to the soil type.

Unsuitable materials include organic materials, frozen lumps, ice, and soils such as peat, shale, gypsum
or other materials that may degrade with time, or are contaminated.

Unstable Subgrade is a Subgrade that is soft, pumping, and/or displaces with applied loading when
encountered in non-Borrow sections such as cuts or existing grades.

Borrow material

shall be suitable material selected to meet the requirements and conditions for backfill for which it is to
be used. Borrow material shall be obtained from sources selected by the consultant and approved by
the client. The Contractor shall submit proposed Borrow sources at the preconstruction conference.

Suitable excavation material shall be utilized before placing Borrow material, unless otherwise approved
by the City Engineer. If the Contractor places more Borrow material than required and causes suitable
onsite material to be wasted, the City Engineer or designee will deduct the amount of wasted suitable
material from the Borrow volume.

Disposal
Dispose of excess or unsuitable materials outside the project at a permitted location. A disposal plan,
including written permission from the owner(s) of the property used for material disposal, shall be
submitted to the City Engineer.

Compaction The subgrade shall be compacted to 95% of maximum density based on building code.

Quarry

Quarry material shall be suitable material selected to meet the requirements and condition for masonry
works, as back fill material, retain wall. Quarry material shall be obtained from sources selected by the
consultant and approved by client. Therefore, different quarry sources are available in the city we
should select after considering of cost of materials, hauling cost, and labor cost.
