III. PROCEDURE
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Opening Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Review
Last meeting we talked about the different
types of switches, tools and equipment using
in Electrical Installation.
Let me test you if you still remember them.

I’ll show you the picture and you will name

them one by one. Are you ready class?

Yes, Ma’am.

(The teacher will show pictures of different

switches, tools and equipment.)

1.

Long nose pliers

2.

Line man’s pliers

3.

Multi-tester

4.

Bulb socket

5.

Flush type switch

Very good!
I’m glad that you still remember our previous
lesson.

We can now proceed to our next topic.

B. Developmental Activities
1. MOTIVATION

But before that let us have an activity, and this is

entitled “LIGHT ME UP”

Here are the instructions on how we are going to do

the activity.
You will be grouped into two and then each
member should connect to each other to light up the
bulb.
To make our activity with a twist, I will show you
set of body parts that you are allowed to use and
connect from one person to another up to the light
bulb here in front. The first group who can light up
the bulb will win.

Is that clear?

Yes, Ma’am.

(Students will play the game)

What have you noticed?

We served as the wire to light up the bulb.

Precisely!

How about the other?

In accurate connection we can light up the

bulb.

If you have noticed, the first and last member of

your group could easily be connected or be
disconnected in the circuit.

Simply because the first and last member of the

group served as the switch in the circuit.

What do you think is our topic for today?

I think it’s all about installing a switch.

Yes! Specifically, a 3-way switch.

2. DISCUSSION PROPER

Class, that “light me up” activity has a big

connection on our topic.

Today, I want to show you the basic principle

on how to install a one lamp controlled by two-
3-way switch in different location.

(The teacher will show an example of

pictorial diagram)

Here are the steps in installing a one lamp

controlled by two-3-way switch in different
location.

Accomplishing task related to electrical

activities cannot thoroughly done without the
aid of different tools and materials.
Whenever you do with electricity, do safety.
We must use Personal Protective
Equipment when working.

Anyone from the group who can read the first

step?
Cut off or switch off the power.

Very good!
How can we cut off or switch off the power?

Turn off the general switch. Disconnect or

plug out the power supply,
Flipped off the breaker.

Okay! Why do we need to cut off the power?

To avoid electrocution, and for us to

perform without causing an accident.

Excellent! Next step?

Locate Line 1 (Red wire) and Line 2
(Green wire).

Very good!
Line 1 and Line 2 must be indicated.
Both lines will serve as our power source.
Just like in a battery there are two terminals, the
positive and negative connection.
But in this, there is no polarity here.
We have the line 1 and line 2.

Okay, how about the third step?

Connect line 1 as neutral connection into

light terminal 1.

Very good!
Insulate (AWG) American Wire Gauge #14
wire to connect line 1 straight to light terminal
1.

Please read step 4.

Connect Line 2 into the first switch as

common terminal.
Zero (0) number code.

Okay!

You can use any of these two holes that

is beside zero number code because they
are connected.

Please read the next step.

Combine like number codes from switch 1

to switch 2. Code #1 to code #1, for code
#3 to code #3.

That’s correct!
The connection between 2 switches is called
traveler wires.

How about Step 6?

Make a connection from switch #2.

Common terminal (0) into light terminal 2.

Very good!
It is the return current up to the light.

Please read step 7?

Finalize all the connection. All joints and

connection must be twisted full. Use
electrical tape in insulating the joints.

Excellent!
This step is performed to make sure that no
connection will lose. And, to avoid short circuit.

Will you please read step 8?

Turn on the circuit breaker. Or plug in AC

cord for our power source.

Good! After finalizing the connection and

insulating joints. We can now be safe to turn on
the circuit breaker.

And for the last step, please read.

Test the light if it is working being

operated by two 3way switches.

Excellent!

Is there any question?

None, ma’am!

3. APPLICATION
I will group you into 2. You will perform
installation of a one lamp controlled by two-3-
way switch in different location.

Your work will be graded by the following

criteria.
Criteria Percentage
Accuracy in following 25%
steps and procedures
Accuracy of installation 30%
Use of tools 15%
Speed 15%
Safety 15%
TOTAL 100%

Do you have questions with regards to the

instruction given?

None, Ma’am!

Is that clear?

Yes, Ma’am!

(The students will perform the activity)

Upon doing the activity, what values did you apply
to finish your output?

(The students will give their answer)

4. GENERALIZATION

To sum up the lesson, who can enumerate the

procedures in installing a 3way switch
chronologically?
Anyone?

1. Cut off the power

2. Locate line 1 and 2
3. Connect line 1 as neutral
connection into light terminal
4. Connect line 2 into the first switch
as common terminal Zero (0)
number code.
5. Combine like number codes for
switch 1 and 2
6. Make a connection for switch
#2 Common terminals (0) into
light terminal 2.
7. Finalize all the connection. All
joints and connection must be
twisted full. Use electrical tape in
insulating the joints.
8. Turn on the circuit breaker or plug
in AC cord for our power source.
9. Test the light if working with 2
3way switches.

Excellent!

IV. EVALUATION

The students will be evaluated according to their performance conducted by

following the steps assigned to them using the given scoring rubrics.
Criteria Percentage
Accuracy in following steps and 25%
procedures
Accuracy of installation 30%
Use of tools 15%
Speed 15%
Safety 15%
Total 100%
