SQ 1 (b) Ans

Because of diffusion. [1]

Perfumes are made up of by volatile liquids, which evaporate to form
a gas. [1]
When the bottle is opened the gases from inside the bottle are
released from higher concentration to lower concentration.
The molecule of gases move in the air randomly and diffuse fastly in
air and its smell quickly reaches on other side of room. [1]
1.1

1. Box B: (solid): particles touching each other partides Box C: (liquid): particles touching each other
arranged regularly / in more than 1 regular row particles arranged irregularly / not in rows
2. a. Diagram showing plunger pushed down so
volume smaller and the same number of particles
randomly arranged

b. Fewer particles hit the wall

Every second
So the force per unit area on the wall is less

C. Pressure decreases
1.2

1. a. A: melting/fusion B: boiling / evaporation C: freezing D: condensing

i. Methane

ii. Naphthalene
Melting point is above room temperature

iii. Ethanol Melting point is below room temperature and

boiling point is above room temperature/ room temperature is
between melting point and boiling point
A: solid and liquid

B: liquid

C: liquid and vapour / liquid and gas

D: vapour / gas

Random movement shown, e.g. particle moves in 4 or more different directions. [1]
All lines are straight [1] (arrows need not be shown)

b. Pollen grains in water / clay particles in water / other suitable example

C. More particles in the air bombard (hit) the dust particle on one side than on another (or hit with greater force) [1]
Dust particles move in direction of the greater number of hits [1]
Particles in the air move randomly so the direction of the movement of the dust particles is also random [1]
3. Chlorine [1] It has the highest relative molecular mass [1]
Dissolving

Diffusion

b. Particles (of dye and water) move randomly / move in any direction
Dye particles spread out
Overall movement of the dye is from area of high concentration (of the dye partides) to lower
concentration (of dye particles)
