ACTIVITY 1: WHAT I KNOW

What is your personal idea of "going green"?
- My definition of "Going Green" is when a person or a group of people decides to
save the environment or the earth. How? Planting trees, conserving water, food,
and electricity are just a few examples. This will help to save our mother earth.
When I think of "Going Green," I think of a lifestyle shift, since "Going Green"
isn't only for a day, but for a lifetime.

Have you undertaken any green initiative lately? if yes, explain briefly.
- Yes, when I heard that scientists say we only have 5 years to save the planet. I am
both shocked and concerned because the planet is in risk. According to scientists,
we need to reduce our usage of water, oil, and, most importantly, electricity. I
changed my lifestyle after hearing the news; anytime I'm alone in our house, I
always turn off the lights and use an electric fan.

How would you classify each text?

- I carefully read each text and then read it again after finishing it for a better
comprehension. As a result, I already had the answer in my thoughts before I
started answering the column.

Which text do you consider as academic?

- Text 2 is what I consider academic. Why? Because it was created via research.
What do you think shapes academic writing?

- Academic writing, in my opinion, is molded by being clear, concise, focused,

organized, and evidence-based. Its goal is to improve the reader's understanding. It
has a formal tone and style, yet it is not difficult to understand and does not
necessitate the use of long phrases or complicated words.
