Final Period quiz and recitation

How did the speaker use the following to make her speech more interesting?

Tone: Standing still speech is an inspirational speech that every stage of our life is like a fight. The tone
of her voice makes it sound like we are in an actual fight and the tone, message and gestures of the
speech syncs together. Using exaggeration on her tone evokes the audience’s emotion that makes them
listen to her speech.

Volume/Voice Modulation: Her voice shifts from faster to louder voice as she makes a point. Since the
‘theme’ of her speech is like in a boxing ring, she acted like she is fighting while speaking. And that adds
to evoke the emotions of the audience.

Phrasing/Stops: While I was listening at her speech, her pauses got me thinking of the point that she
emphasizing. It allows us audience to understand and to feel every phrase of the message that she is
delivering. It adds thrill to the message of her speech,

In your opinion, did the speaker effectively use the following nonverbal elements?

Proxemics: I can’t see the distance on the video because of the angle of the camera, but one thing that I
notice is that she not that close to the audience and not too far. She leans forward whenever she is
making a point.

Movement and Stance: This is one of the elements that elevate her speech. The movement and the way
she stand shows confident, determined, inspired kind of person. The way she walks toward the audience
has also a lot of movement like punching in the air, upper cut, and different boxing movements that
signifies to the challenges of life.

Facial Expression: This is also one of the reasons why I love the way she delivers her speech because
she expresses the emotions that suites in the phase of her speech. When her message is motivating, her
voice will also turn into a motivating voice and if she is angry and disappointed she also uses a facial
expression that correspond on her message.

Gestures: At the beginning of her speech she already uses a gesture that got the attention of her
audience. The audience usually remembers what they see as opposed to what they hear. And that
makes the gesture more important in the speech. In every point of her speech, she creates a different
gesture that corresponds to its message and so that the audience wouldn’t be bored throughout her
speech. I just watched the video once and I still remember the gestures that she used. Like, she punches
the air to every challenge of her life; it’s like a hit of reality that not all things will go as you planned. She
also used a gesture of giving up in the fight. I can see myself in that kind of situation and I think a lot
from the audience experience that kind of hit of reality.

Costume: Just like the other speakers that I watched, her attire is not too intimidating to the audience,
very presentable, simple, and professional. Her make-up is as simple as she dress herself, did not heavy
make-up. To summarize, your outfit should assist you in establishing authority. You should present
yourself as someone who belongs up there sharing knowledge with the audience.
