1 Introduction & References

2 Design of Rectangular Drains

1.0 Introduction:

This document contains design calaculations for Surface storm water drains ( Power Station)

Total Substaion drains are Designed as rectanular surface drain type of drains based

on the suitability requirements as given below.

i) Rectangular concrete open drains

Analysis is carried out based the basic input parameters furnished in the Civil Structural

Design Basis Document. However, furnished below for easy reference.

Rainfall Intensity I= 90 mm/ hr

Longitudinal bed slope of drain S= > 1 in 500 for Rectangular Drains

Maximum velocity of drain water Vmax= 1.8 m/Sec

Minimum velocity of drain water Vmin= 0.6 m/Sec

Reference documents:
i) Civil and Structural Design Basis SL-PE-23-CAL-DBR-002_R02

ii) Manual on storm water drainage systems valume I Part A Central public health and environment
Engineering Design by Government of India engineering organization

iii) Guidelines of Road Drainage IRC-SP-42

iv) Guidelines on Urban Drainage IRC-SP-50
