October 2007 Assignments (3 - 5)
OFFICE BUILDING PROJECT
Systematic arrangement of calculations and clear neat drawings are essential. Any data not given can be reasonably
assumed according to the Egyptian Code of Practice.

Figure (1) shows a typical plan for an office building floor has an area ( 18.75 × 46.25m ). The level of area
between axis (5) and axis (6) is lower than the rest of the floor by 0.45m. The typical floor height is 3.40m as
shown in Figure (2), the cross-section elevation (A-A).

Floor cover is 2.0 kN/m2 and Live Load is 4.0 kN/m2. The used bricks for the walls have a natural density equals to
12 kN/m3. The characteristics properties of the used materials are, fcu = 25 N/mm2, fy = 360 N/mm2 (High Tensile
Steel 36/52), fy (stirrup) = 240 N/mm mm2 (Mild Steel 24/35).

Assignment (3) – Design the Ground Floor and First Floor as Two-Way Solid Slab:

It is Required to:
• Design the slabs, and draw to scale 1:50 plan of the slabs to show details of reinforcement.
• Design the critical sections for flexure and shear of the beams.
• For beams Draw sectional elevation (1:50) and cross sections (1:25) to show details of reinforcement.

Assignment (4) – Design the Second Floor and Third Floor as One-way Hollow Block Slab:

It is Required to:
• Design the slabs, and draw to scale 1:50 plan of the slabs to show details of reinforcement.
• Design the critical sections for flexure and shear of the beams.
• For beams Draw sectional elevation (1:50) and cross sections (1:25) to show details of reinforcement.

Assignment (5) – Design the Fourth Floor and Fifth Floor as Two-way Hollow Block Slab:

It is Required to:
• Design the slabs, and draw to scale 1:50 plan of the slabs to show details of reinforcement.
• Design the critical sections for flexure and shear of the beams.
• For beams Draw sectional elevation (1:50) and cross sections (1:25) to show details of reinforcement.
