THM 7 – MULTICULTURAL DIVERSITY IN WORKPLACE
FOR THE TOURISM PROFESSIONAL

Welcome to THM 7 course orientation! I look forward to virtually meeting and working with you
all and helping you prepare for this course.
This module packet has every lesson and assignment you will see in the module. Module
packets can be used for those who experience issues with internet access and/or connectivity.
This means that with this module packet, you can review all course materials offline. However,
you will still need to complete assignments and activities, such as discussion posts, online.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course provides an interdisciplinary foundation for students who need to understand and
adapt diversities to become successful professionals in the industry. The course also describes
the skills, knowledge and performance outcomes required to manage multicultural diversity in
workplace that covers organization’s diversity policy, encouraging diversity within work teams
and upholding the benefits of a diverse workplace. It should also develop the ability to
communicate with people from a range of social and cultural groups with respect and sensitivity,
and to address cross-cultural misunderstanding if it arises. The end goal is for the student to be
equipped with social awareness and diverse understanding when serving customers and
working with colleagues. (Based on the CMO No. 62 series of 2017)
COURSE OUTCOMES:
Upon the completion of this course, learners are expected to:

1. Explain the concept of culture, its key features and multicultural diversity and workplace diversity in
tourism and hospitality industry.
2. Discuss about the management issues of cultural diversity in tourism and hospitality industry such as
handling guest or customer diversities and peer diversities.
3. Realize and explain the importance of becoming a diversity champion and the benefits of a diverse
workforce.
