8. Describe a person who you follow on social media

The person l am going to tell you about is Đình Long, a famous
online food critic. Although he has never systematically
introduced his life story, from the pieces of information he reveals
in his videos, we can still learn that he received vocational training
as a cook after graduating from secondary school and eventually
made it to the head chef of the five-star hotel, Sheraton. After
quitting his job, he created an account on social media and
became a food critic.

He was recommended to me by the platform probably because l

had watched so many clips about food. You know, these high-
tech companies exploit my data, speculate what l like, and display
relevant information on my page to increase the time l spend on
their products.

Every day, Long would post a video in which he goes to a

restaurant and comments on the food. His choices range from
high-end ones where a single dish can cost nearly 10 million VND
to stalls on the street where you can fill your stomach with only
dozens of VND. Normally, he would take a bite of the food,
describe the taste, explain how it is cooked and grade it. The
shooting may take over an hour, but the length of the videos is cut
to 2-3 minutes to fit the hectic schedule of modern people.

l follow him mainly because of his professional review. There are

so many food critics on social media, but most of them have
never received formal training. Their descriptions about the food
are abstract and bleak, from which l can hardly get what the food
is like. But Long is different. His narrative enables you to imagine
what the dish taste is like and whether it is delicious or not.

9. Describe a person who contributes to the society

The person I am going to tell you is Đình Long, the president of
the Youth Volunteer Association in my school. He is a tall, slim
boy, with some marks of pimples on his face. Every time I see
him, he is wearing a smile, quite amiable, which perfectly fits his
position and what he does.

I first met him at the interview. Since the Youth Volunteer

Association was one of the most popular associations in my
university, it had to screen off some of the applicants to avoid
being too overstaffed. Then at the welcome party, I learnt that he
was doing the same major as me, two grades higher, and we
were actually from the same place, which provided a natural
reason for us to become familiar with each other.

Every week, he would organize three different volunteer activities,

one to the school for deaf-mutes, playing games with the disabled
adolescents to ease their feelings of being isolated from society;
one to the nursing home, chatting with the senior citizens and
cleaning rooms for them so that they know they are not forgotten,
and the last one to the animal shelter to help the staff bath the
puppies. Although doing these kinds of activities is his job, he
does them quite sincerely. Otherwise, he could lower the
frequency or cut one of them off.

His work alleviates others’ trouble and brings happiness to them.

That is why I think he contributes to society.

10. Describe someone you really like to spend time with

Someone I enjoy spending time with is Gérard who is

the husband of my mother’s youngest sister and my only French
uncle.

I knew him since he was with my aunt in Vietnam. It’s been

almost 10 years. I remember the first time he visited my family, I
was a bit embarrassed as I barely understood French. So, most
of our conversation was in English as that was the only common
language between us.

When we were together, he often taught me some technical

things. As I become more and more familiar with him, I realized
that he has an exceptional talent on automobiles. You know], no
matter what problems a car has, he can detect them by just sitting
on the car for a little while, which is truly amazing. I guess most of
the knowledge I have about cars was from my uncle’s teaching.
You know, I always felt excited to be with him.

Well, the reason why I love spending time with Gérard is that I
can learn something from him. Since he became my uncle and
had more contact with me, both my French and driving skills have
improved quite a lot. You know, I am grateful that I could have an
uncle like in my life.

11. Describe a person you only met once and what to know more
about

The experience I am going to tell you about is that for the first
time, I personally met Đan Trường, who is better known by his
stage name Anh Bo. He is a famous singer, songwriter, and a
record producer. He has received three Golden Melody awards,
including one Best New Artist and two Best Male Singer. Because

of his distinguished performance on the stage, he is often referred

to as the role-model by yuongers.

It was about half a year ago when I was taking the flight from
Saigon to Hanoi. I boarded on the plane, located my seat, stuffed
my baggage into the overhead locker and sat down. Then I found
the man sitting next to me looking a bit weird. He was wearing a
mask and a big pair of sunglasses. You could barely see his face.
This aroused my interest. After observing covertly for a few
minutes, I realized he was Đan Trường, my idol.

It turned out that he had just held a concert in Saigon, and was
heading to Hanoi to prepare for the next one. During the flight,
most of the talk was done by me. I expressed how much my
classmates and I liked him and his songs, and my admiration for
his talent in this field.

As a huge fan of his, I felt how lucky I was to meet him on the
plane. Facing my endless talking and a wide range of questions,
he showed no impatience and was amiable over the whole
journey. He even gave me a signed photograph of his when we
were about to land.
