Case Introduction: We interviewed Mr. Manpreet Singh of the sweeping staff who has the
responsibilities of cleaning of the academic building.

Job Analysis for the case of Mr. Manpreet Singh


After conducting the interview, we found that the sweeping job of Mr. Manpreet Singh includes
cleaning responsibility of the campus infrastructure with 8 hours of shifts and 4 days off in a month.
His supervisor is Mr. Jaswinder to whom he reports for duty. The fixed salary is of Rs. 8400/month
with cleaning supplies are provided by the college. He was provided with a training of 1 month. There
are 40 employees in the cleaning staff for the academic building with 3-4 employee per floor. There is
only one uniform provided for the cleaning staff which will be mended if damaged without extra
charges but there is no additional uniform for harsh weather. No incentives are provided for overtime
done by the cleaning staff and there are no offs for any festive holidays for the cleaning staff. Shifts
can be changed after talking with supervisor. Mr. Singh agreed to a relocation to the Patiala campus if
needed. For grievances Mr. Vikas Bawa is their contact person. Sometimes they also have to stay for
any events taking place in the college like fests and farewells, although they are not paid extra for this.

This was the basic analysis done from the interview, after this we prepared a structured job
description for the sweeping staff at LM Thapar School of Management.

Job Responsibilities
● Cleaning of the academic building including floors, classrooms, staircases, etc.
● Maintaining cleaning equipment
● Overstay for special events happening like exams, fests, farewells, etc.
● Reporting to Supervisor for beginning of day to get the list of duties for the day
● Oversee the maintenance of the academic building
● Being prompt in cleaning the academic building during breaks and after college hours
