EVIDENCES
REPORT

Technology is the present world, almost

everyone is using it and it affects people’s lives
on so many levels, that one can’t even fathom its
scale. And its benefits are almost exponential,
think of a particular sphere of your daily life,
anything, there’s always some kind of modern
technology that has penetrated it and our
modern life revolves around these technologies.
Now education is also a sphere where modern
technology has managed to spread its roots far
and wide. In the recent years the advent of the
internet has lead to major strides in the field of
online learning. Online websites which
specifically cater to students of different
classes and provide information about specific
subjects, no matter what you want to learn,
from basic multiplication or division, all the way
up to complex mathematical equations, there’s
always an article or a youtube video explaining
the concept. There is seemingly an endless sea
of information about almost everything,
available for no extra cost, just a google search
away. So it has, in a way, reduced the burden on
the teachers as well as the students. Now in a
perfect world with this information a normal
student could become a scholar, but that’s not
the case. There’s two sides to every coin, on one
side there’s infinite amounts of knowledge, on
the other one, there’s loads of distractions in the
form of online entertainment and video games.
These things are made in such a way that they
pull people in and make them consume the
content for as long as they possibly and
command their attention. With this comes the
problem of addiction, which in turn lead to
physical and mental health problems, such as
poor eyesight, poor posture, behavioural issues,
mental disorders to manifest in some of the
formative years of a child.
So, we wanted to ask, what the students and
their parents think about the involvement of
technology in education, and what are its
advantages and disadvantages. And as you can
see from the responses in the previous pages
Most of the students are using their gadgets for
around 3-6 hours which is a bit excessive and
most of them use it for entertainment purposes
only. A small number of students use it
exclusively for studying and that too, for small
periods of time, however, they do seem to
recognise its harmful effects on their eyes and
posture. And most of them do their homework
assignments with the help of the technology,
which is not necessarily a bad thing but
completely depending on it might become a
problem. Their parents also seem to understand
the dangers of addiction to these kinds of things
and express their concerns, but they also
recognise the potential it possesses to help
children to learn, if they are steered in the right
direction. Which is the most important thing,
without proper guidance a child will get
distracted and be like a boat without its sails
stuck in the torrents of the sea, which obviously
a parent doesn’t want for their child. The
children as well need to understand the
importance of using their smartphones and
other devices in moderation, and in a productive
Way which benefits them academically. For
example, they can revise the topics they are
taught in school and they can clear their doubts,
which will not only help them to understand the
concepts better it will help them to excel in
exams as well, and since most students already
have a hectic schedule it makes it all the more
important to make the most of the time that
they are on their devices. Hence, technology can
be a great tool of development if used wisely,
but it can also turn into a weapon of destruction
just as easily.

Self-Reflection

• Aditya Yadav

I had a positive experience while working

on this project because the topic is relevant
considering today’s scenario as well as last
year’s circumstances. It made me think
about my own usage of technology and the
benefits it had on my studies and the bad
habits I picked up along the way due to its
extremely addictive nature. Also, it was
quite insightful to know what other students
of different age groups as well as their
parents think about the benefits and
detriments of the electronic gadgets that
we are surrounded by and the effect of our
increasing reliance on these devices. In the
end, it was great to know all the different
opinions people had about this topic.
• Rohan Mehra

I learn about the deeper meaning of

technology and it's impact on education
also. This project gave me a better
understanding of technology, it's
advantages, and disadvantages.
Making this project made me realise that
there are two sides of technology one
which is good for us on the other hand it's a
destruction for us as well.

• Sujal Das
From this project I saw that there are many
positive and negative aspects of technology
use in day to day life of students. Although
looking through survey results, parents did
share more positive impacts of technology
than negative. There were areas where I
felt that student’s motivation and
engagement were higher with the use of
technology in their life. Moving forward,
Parents would benefit from implementing
the technology in the daily life activities so
that they feel more comfortable with the
inclusion of technology.
