A. Background or Introduction: What pushes you to work on this project? Is it beneficial? What are the benefits
to you and to the community? State why this project is important to you (what problem or question does it solve,
or what specific need does it meet?).
Mathematics is the one of the most difficult subject to pass among all levels of formal education(i.e. primary,
secondary, tertiary). It is an inevitable academic subject in any given field of scholastic endeavors. Recent
studies in the Philippines showed that Mathematics is an essential learning areas where Filipinos students are
underwitted. In the advent of COVID-19 pandemic, students in the country are learning independently at their
respective homes without the adequate guidance of their teachers. Teaching mathematics at this scheme would
be strenuous for teachers and also to the students which subsequently affects their academic performance at this
particular subject.
Within the context Simanu National High School, modular distance learning is the learning modalities utilized to
teach learners with Mathematics. Integrating modular distance learning on math-related subjects possessed a
great risk of student’s incapability to comprehend verdant lessons and trigger inequality in learning as not all
students are capable of learning mathematics on their own. In some reported cases, learners even use mobile
applications like Mathway, Photomath, Gauzmath and among others just to answer their Mathematics’ modules
at one tap. Despite its contribution, the usage of advanced technology in learning mathematics promotes
ineffective learning and students being facile while in the course distance learning. Hence, it can be inferred that
students nowadays need an assistant in learning mathematics amidst the new normal of education.
This phenomenon caught my attention as an immersion student and math enthusiast to conduct a tutoring
sessions/services among student enrolled in our school to enhance their academic performance on this subject
and help them build their fundamental interest on mathematics. Not just that, this project will also allow me to
hone my skills in mathematics and become one of the stewards in proliferating awareness towards using own
skills in solving and learning mathematics without the use of modern technology.
As a future educator, this endeavor will build my teaching skills and build my attitudes in pursuit of attaining
holistic learning. Combined with my sufficient knowledge in mathematics, I can help those students who are
currently struggling in this subject by providing its building blocks of comprehension. Thereby encapsulating the
school’s mantra, “Bridging and Intensifying the Delivery of Accessible Basic Education on Student
Transformation.”

B. Project Description: Describe in detail what you are going to accomplish for your project. What will be the
end product or result of your work?
Objectives:
1. To alleviate the comprehension and academic performance of junior and senior high school modular
learners in Mathematics through tutorial sessions.
2. To promote autonomous learning in Mathematics without relying on the Internet and mobile applications.
3. To develop the problem-solving and conceptual mathematical skills of students enrolled in Simanu National
High School in an approachable and feasible manners.
4. To provide assistance in answering the participants’ module and give them advance lessons on Mathematics
that he/she can utilize in the succeeding years of their formal education.
C. Expected Outcomes of the Project? How this project different from others? What usual practice will it
improved?
▪ Tutorials are often conducted in a mixed-mode of subjects and with primary school students, however this
project will only focus on Mathematics-related subjects being teach on Simanu National High School
curriculum with its junior and senior students as the participants. Pressed by the current COVID-19
pandemic, the tutorial sessions will only be limited to students residing in Barangay Simanu Norte and will
be conducted in a one student per session. The current trends on tutorial session being conducted on virtual
platforms were discouraged and will not be utilize in this project as it does not promote learning on
students, instead this tutorial sessions will be carried on a limited face-to-face interactions with the
participants while abiding implemented health protocols in accordance with the existing alert level. Further,
as an immersion student, I will embody work ethics while performing tutorials with my participants.
D. Prior Knowledge/Experience: What background knowledge and/or experience do you already have that will
provide a foundation for your work on this project?
▪ Over my years as a junior and current GAS-senior student of Simanu National High School I had been
exposed on various mathematics-related subjects(i.e.algebra, trigonometry, geometry, intermediate algebra,
general mathematics, statistics and probability, pre-calculus, and calculus) which not to boast is a learning
areas I excelled the most. In addition, I also successfully placed my MMC(Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math
Challenge) in a two-consecutive years and able me to represent SNHS in its Division Oral Finals last 2019
and 2020—that subsequently honed my mathematical prowess right now. Recently, I have been studying
pre-calculus and differential calculus during my free time since it is not being offered on my strand.
However, teaching or tutoring is the skills I am not that confident since I do not have a fixed experience on
tutoring various grade levels in our school. Nevertheless, “Everything is a learning process,” as I about to
enter the work immersion phase I can work out on this problem and learn the proper ways o tutoring.
Hence, with this skills and proven background in mathematics I sincerely believe that I will carry an
exemplary performance during my work immersion proper.

E. Personal Challenge: How does this project represent a personal challenge for you? How does it require new
learning or the development of new skills to do something you’ve never done before?
▪ Tutoring as part of my work immersion’s culminating activity while also finishing other requirements to
other subjects is foreseen to cause me a tight schedule that would force me to practice time management
and multitasking skills during this undertaking. Proper tutoring/teaching would be a new area for me as I
about to encounter different types of students with different capabilities to comprehend mathematics that
will gauge my patience and ability to handle their learning circumstances. Tutoring in the midst of the
pandemic also would require me to be flexible and proactive within the course of sessions. Probably the
most prevalent hindrances in the conduct of my work immersion is the lack of resources needed but I will
overcome to it through employing my creativeness and resourcefulness, respectively.

F. Indicators of achievement: How can you say that your project is successful? What will be its primary
contributions to the society?
▪ This project is set to teach and help the junior and senior students enrolled on Simanu National High School
with their modules in Mathematics and other related subjects. It will promote independence from using the
internet or mobile applications to answer math problems and develop the young generations’ interest to
Mathematics in my respective community. In gauging the success of this mathematics tutorial sessions, I
will be giving a set of test questions for the participants at the end of each sessions which of course are
related to their modules. The result of the tests will serve as basis in assessing the project’s success rate. As
the tutor by, I will also analyze if the participants are learning by asking set of questions on the lessons
during and after each tutorials.

Main Activities: What are the procedures you are going to undertake to achieve the project? What major steps
will be involved in accomplishing this goal (be sure to include a submission date prior to the for your final
presentation)?
▪ For this project to achieve its goals, I will follow a planned schedule of every activities to be performed
from the pre-immersion, wok immersion and post-immersion stage. A detailed set of activities are given

June 03, 2022 Post-Immersion ▪ Submission of portfolio.

Documentation: Explain how you will document and eventually present the process and product (which might
culminate in writing a paper, a multimedia demonstration, working with a family member/community, a
portfolio of work, or a presentation to a community).
▪ In order to carry out a safe and meaningful mathematics tutorial sessions the following documents will be
needed:
1. Consent form of the parents and participants
2. List of tasks and activities for each week
3. Daily time record of tutorial sessions
▪ To document the whole work immersion process I will make use of smartphone to capture images related to
the tutorial sessions and a laptop to encode the portfolio itself. In presenting weekly accomplishments and
the portfolio I will solely utilize virtual meeting platforms such as Google Meet to present my output with
my work immersion teacher pressed by the current health crisis.

G. Duration and Target Time of Completion: Be sure to submit/accomplished on or before June 3 of this year.
▪ As seen above in the main activities section, my immersion proper will start on April 04 and is set to end on
May 31 this year. Its target time of completion and submission is on June 03, 2022.
