Actually, Philippines is tremendously benefited by the

growth of maritime industry. As a matter of fact, there are
currently over 10.5 million Filipinos living and working
overseas, and in 2013, they sent approximately $23 billion in
remittances back to the Philippines. The maritime industry is
a key contributor: approximately 400,000 Filipino sailors
worked abroad in 2013, giving more than $5.2 billion in
remittances. Based from what I read before, with shipping
carrying over 90% of global trade, Filipinos play an
extremely important role in this industry. Seafaring is the
Philippines' biggest strength, currently supplying roughly
30% of the world's seafarers, which is miles away from the
second-largest source country."

It also benefits both Asia and the whole world. Shipping

is actually an industry that accounts for more than 90% of
global GDP. There are approximately 51400 merchant ships
sailing across the world, transferring goods and keeping the
economy going. Everything is running around the clock, with
accuracy and diligence, whether it is oil from the Gulf,
wheat from the Cargill Grain Dock in Houston, or iPhones in
containers being delivered from one corner of the world to

the other. As of now, Asia's dominance in global maritime
trade strengthened in 2020, with the region maintaining a
41% share of total products loaded, increasing its volume of
goods discharged, and remaining the world's largest
seafarer supply region.
