Sleep Duration and

Academic Performance: A
Correlational Study for
Grade 11 HUMSS

By: Group 2
•Variable used in the study
- Dependent Variable is Academic Performance.
- Independent Variable is the amount of sleep receive on
average by Grade 11 HUMSS Students.

•Research focus or problem to be investigated

-The correlational effect of the average number of hours of
sleep per night had on the academic performance of Grade 11
HUMSS Senior High Students
•Respondents/Subjects
- Grade 11 Einstein School Senior High
Students of Humanities and Social Sciences
Strand.

•Locus of the Study

- Einstein School Cebu, Senior High School
Department
Rationale

The amount of sleep have impacts on memory,

alertness, and attention span which are the extremely vital skills
that a student must possess in order to do well in school at any
grade level. Studies have said that a sleep deprived person
cannot perform mental tasks as well as someone who is well
rested (DeNoon, 2000). The purpose of this study is to determine
if there is correlational effect of sleep duration on academic
performance in relation to the student's quality of sleep.
Statement of the Problem

Sleep is an inseparable part of human health

and life, and is considered pivotal to learning and
practice as well as physical and mental health. In this
regard, we should examine if there is cause and effect
relationship between sleep quality and academic
performance. This is to be conscious and aware in
advance to the risk of developing sleep disorders that
perhaps can cause a negative effect on academic
performance.
Objectives of the Study

• To probe the student's efficient or lack amount

of sleep in influencing his/her academic
performance.

• To observe the factors that limits the duration of

sleep.

• To determine the probable academical outcomes

base from the amount of sleeping hours.
Research Questions

1. Does the length of student's sleep affects the

result of his/her academic performance?

2. What are the causes that makes the students

as are subject to sleeping late?

3. Does the amount of sleeping hours concerns

the student's aim to progress academically?
Significance of the Study
This study is beneficial to the following:

Students. This study can allow students to value the healthiness

and efficiency of time management.

Teachers. This may help teachers to be sensible of their students

achievement in relation to their health.

Future Researchers. This research would help future

researchers to use this as their research reference.
Scope and Limitation of Study

The study is solely about the relation of sleep

longevity to the student's academic performance either
there is relevance or effects. Other points connected
such as not academical effects of sleep duration will be
disregarded.
The area over which the research study extends is
at Einstein School Cebu only. The respondents are
concentrated for Grade 11 HUMSS Students while any
outside responses shall be rejected.
