1st SUMMATIVE TEST IN STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY

I. Determine whether the following is a discrete or continuous random variable. Write

DISCRETE if it represents discrete random variable and CONTINUOUS if it represents
continuous random variable.
1. number of books in the library
2. the lifetime in hours of 15 flashlights
3. the number of tourists each day in the museum
4. the capacity of water dams in a region
5. the weight of a grade 1 pupil
6. relatives that a person have
7. amount of medicine a patient must take
8. leaves of a tree
9. temperature of South Korea
10.heartbeat
II. Find the possible values of random variable
1. Two coins are tossed. Let G be the random variable representing the number of tails
that occur. Find the values of the random variable G.
2. If a volleyball team will play for 4 consecutive games, what number can be assigned for
the frequency of winning or losing? Let K stands for winning and D for losing.
III. Illustrating a probability distribution for a discrete random variable and its properties.
1. Make a probability distribution for Test II question 1.
2. Make a probability distribution for Test II question2.
3. Consider tossing 3 coins.
a. Construct its sample space.
b. Assign possible values to the sample points.
c. Make a probability distribution function for getting a tail.

PERFORMANCE TASK
1. Give 5 examples of a discrete and 5 continuous random variable. Examples given
must not be the same with one of your classmates. Each the same example will be
subtracted to the final score.
2. Perform tossing of 3 coins and make probability distribution of it. Take pictures
while performing the task. You can either print the picture and attach it to your
answer sheet or just send the picture on our group chat.
