Rationale

Project PPE (Portfolio Predicate on Exemplar) is a backup contingency response

of the Schools Division of Surigao del Sur for learning delivery and learning resource
which parallel to the on-going endeavors of the higher offices in the Department.
It is the utilization of a lesson exemplar that is streamlined in a teacher-and-learner-
friendly format to cater to the new classroom setup in light of the COVID-19 health
crisis. These exemplars will be paired with a self-contained and self-instructional
portfolio.

The portfolio is a deliberate collection of works that highlight a learner’s effort that
would enable the him/her to see his/her growth and achievement, ability to
reflect on his/her own work and ability to establish goals for future learning.

DRAFTING PATTERN TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Pattern maker must have the proper pattern making tools and supplies.
For making better communication with the workroom and to minimize errors
due to misunderstanding, the pattern maker should know and understand
some terminology related with pattern-making tools.

Uses of Drafting Tools

drafting patterns.

SALIENT MEASURES TO OBSERVE IN DRAFTING PATTERNS

1. Be sure to have an accurate division of the measurement. Use L-Square.
2. Use the aid of a hip curve if necessary.
3. Always use the L-square or ruler in making lines.
4. Use weights or dressmaker’s pins so that the pattern will not move.

KINDS OF PATTERN

1. Block pattern – made by drafting from the measurements which have

been carefully taken from an individual or from a model.
2. Construction pattern – the intervening step between the block and the
final pattern. Designs are complicated, construction patterns are
sectioned.
3. Final pattern – provided with the necessary symbols that will guide the
cutter on how to lay out the pattern on the cloth. Symbols for darts, seam
allowances, grainline, centerfold, and notches and other markers are
used.

DRAFTING THE BASIC PATTERN

A. Drafting Tools
 Eraser
 Hip curve
 L-square
 Pattern Paper
 Pencil
 Ruler
 Sharpener
 Tape Measure
B. Equipment
 Cutting Table
C. Body Measurement Needed
1. Waist – taken around your natural waistline which is approximately 2”
above your hipbone.
2. Hip – taken around the prominent part of the buttocks which is about
7 to 8 inches from the hips.
3. Skirt length – the vertical measurement taken from the waist just
below the waistband down to the desired length of skirt
4. Skirt circumference – taken around where the desired skirt length fall.
5. Apex distance – taken from apex point to apex point

After drafting the basic pattern check it correctly and accurately, especially
the: (1) Measurement and (2) Parts of pattern pieces; and then, cut the basic pattern
following the cutting lines smoothly.

11
LET US REMEMBER

 The foundation pattern is a perfectly plain one-piece dress or waist

fitted to the figure as dictated by the current style. It is based in
the measurement of one individual.
 A foundation pattern is a guide or basis in the construction and
manipulation of flat pattern designing.
 Pattern drafting can be done well if you use the proper tools and
follow the step by step procedure.
