DIAGNOSTIC TEST IN LLI 201: FOUNDATION OF LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION

Answer the questions as comprehensive as Possible.

1. A language is a structured system of communication consisting of speech, gestures and

writing. The scientific study of language is called linguistics.
2. Teaching is based upon a specialization on a certain field, teaching skills, and some
certain personal characteristics that the profession requires but it is also about inspiring
and motivating students to realize and exceed their potentials.
3. Language teaching means making the students use it: to write, to read, to speak, and to
listen in that language.
4. For me there are a lot of ways how to teach language but here are some:
a. Expose students to as much of the language as possible.
b. Get hands-on: Encourage participation with games.
c. Use multimedia to enhance the learning experience
d. Encourage activities outside the classroom
e. Teach culture alongside the language

5. Language should be taught depends on your learner’s interests and capabilities.

6. In K to 12 program, the language curriculum ensures that processes and products of

learning actively foster and contribute to the achievement of the basic education program
goals. Competencies are spiraled across the curriculum and year levels. Upper levels
courses will focus on writing, comprehension and study strategies that will be their
steppingstone once they entered the tertiary level. It is a stable program but there will
always be a room for improvement.

7. In language teaching, we must consider the learners strengths, weaknesses, culture,

environment, and mother tongue.

8. Some of the issues that I know in language teaching are limited teaching resources, large
number of students in the classroom, limited time for lecture to teach and students are
bored and not interested in learning the English language.
Main Question: In the new normal set-up, where do you anchor your teaching?

Distance learning has become the new normal set-up in education in the country due to
the pandemic. DepEd (2020), without sacrificing the quality of education, came up with the
Learning Continuity Plan (LCP) starting school year 2020–2021 up until the present. This
provides learning interventions that teachers can utilize during the pandemic.
There are lot of adjustments needed to be done by the teachers and by the students it seems
like everything is back to zero. And based on my experience I anchored my teaching with these
basic steps. Planning is everything. I ensure that I’m always organized and have a plan laid out
even though you have the same subject to be taught. Lead by example. Present yourself well,
look into the camera when you present and don't multi-task while you're presenting. With this
mind-set your students will not feel so detached with you. Think outside the box. Normal
energizers or styles in teaching may not be applicable since you cannot really monitor them one
by one. Researching trending virtual approaches may help to catch their attention like virtual
games, virtual praises, and virtual submission. Those things may be not that exciting before but
with the help of some technology platforms, it can motivate them to be part of the discussion.
Encourage social interaction. On this part, it is not easy to achieve since we all know under the
distance learning we all have limitations that’s why during my class I make sure that all my
students are encouraged to participate no matter how big or small their contribution. From reading
the topics or text, by giving examples and until they can share some of their learnings with the
class.
Learning is not an easy journey how much more now adays with the distance learning.
But no matter what happened to the teaching set-up, it is our duty that the teaching-learning
process will be informative, organized, and interactive.
