known as tetragon or
quadrangle, is a general
term for a four-sided
polygon.

The common parts of a quadrilateral are
describe as follows.
Sides: These are line segments joining any
two adjacent vertices (corners).
Interior Angles: An interior angle is the
angle formed between two adjacent sides.
Height or Altitude: It is the distance between
two parallel sides of a quadrilateral.
The common parts of a quadrilateral are
described as follows.

Base: This is the bottom side that is

perpendicular to the altitude.

Diagonal: This is the line segment joining

any two non-adjacent vercites.
The classification of quadrilaterals is based
on the number of pairs of its parallel sides.

1. Parallelogram has two pairs of parallel

sides.

2. Trapezoid has only one pair of parallel

sides.
The classification of quadrilaterals is based on
the number of pairs of its parallel sides.

3. Trapezium does not have any pair of

parallel sides.
4. Rectangle,rhombus and square are
special types of parallelograms.
PARALLELOGRAM

A parallelogram is a
quadrilateral whose
opposite side are parallel.
RECTANGLE

A rectangle is essentially a
parallelogram in which the
interior angles are all right
angles.
SQUARE

A square is a special type

of a rectangle in which all
the sides are equal.
RHOMBUS

A rhombus is a parallelogram
in which all the sides are
equal.
TRAPEZIUM

Trapezium is a
quadrilateral with no two
sides that are parallel.
Tell whether the
following statement is
true of false.
Every square is a rectangle.
Every square is a rhombus.
Every rectangle is a
quadrilateral.
Every quadrilateral is a
parallelogram.
Every trapezium is a kite.
Every rectangle is a
parallelogram.
Every trapezoid is a
parallelogram.
