TOPIC TECHNIQUES IN PUBLIC SPEAKING
1. Understand techniques which may be employed in various forms of
LEARNING public speaking.
OBJECTIVES 2. Deliver a prepared speech or an impromptu talk on an issue employing
the different techniques in public speaking.

MODULE CONTENT
Public Speaking
 The process of speaking to a few or many people with the purpose of informing, motivating, persuading,
educating or entertaining the listeners . 
Benefits of Being Engaged in Public Speaking

 Sharp critical thinking skills


 Confidence when dealing with people
 Fluency in verbal and non-verbal communication

BASIC FORM OF PUBLIC SPEAKING

1. PREPARED SPEECH
The speaker is given the topic beforehand, has time to research about the topic and is able to
rehearse or practice prior to delivering the speech.
a. Memorized Speech
b. Extemporaneous Speech
2. Impromptu Speech
The speaker is given with little or no time to prepare. This type of speaking occurs during ambush
interview and other gatherings where people are asked to deliver a speech on the spur of the
moment.

5. Use non-verbal cues
