(7) RATIONALE/ABSTRACT
The beginning of 2020 has seen millions of lives turned upside down due to the global outbreak of COVID-
19. Across the globe, students have been away from schools and their teachers, but literacy learning has
continued. However, time spent away from the classroom can lead to early reading instruction
difficulties. As more and more children are being forced to stay home from school, the risk of students
becoming disengaged from or deprived entirely of their education is higher than ever. Students tend to
experience a learning loss in reading during this time, especially for students who has no one to rely or
asked for help in regards with their studies.
To ensure that our students progress in their reading achievement instead of falling behind during the
COVID-19 pandemic, teachers of Dalipay High School will conduct the LAKBAY BASA where teachers
were group into 3 members and given an assigned learner. Each group of teachers will conduct the reading
intervention in different zone/barangay where the learners lived. Students in that zone/barangay will gather
in a certain place and will conduct the reading intervention.
