1. The local administration installed 3500 Incandescent bulbs as part of a new lighting system project.
According to them, the bulbs are produced by several companies and have a burn time of 1060 hours on
average. The distribution of the burning lives is close to normal. They discovered that the 350th light bulb had
burned out after 822 hours of observation. What is the standard deviation of the burning lives of this set of
lightbulbs? (Follow the steps or refer to our module)

2. The researcher department of traffic and risk management conducted the study in controlling speed
while driving a vehicle and found out the key reasons to regulate and improve the traffic flow efficiency, and
reducing the risk of danger. The focus of the research is on the distance needed to fully stop a vehicle at
different speeds. Using the data given below, is there a significant relationship between speed and breaking
distance at alpha 0.05 and the distribution is about normal? (Refer to our module, Indicate the steps)

r=_____15053.3331______ r=.9658

The value of r suggests a strong positive relation between speed and breaking distance at alpha 0.05. That is the
faster the speed, the farther distance is needed to fully stop a vehicle.

Step 1: State the hypotheses and identify the claim.

H0= There is no significant relationship between speed and breaking distance.
Ha= There is a significant relationship between speed and breaking distance.
Step 2: Find the critical value using the t-distribution table
Significance level: α= 0.05
Degree of freedom: n-2 6-2=4
Critical Value: ± 2.776 Step 3:
Compute the test value.

Step 4: Make the decision to reject or not reject the null hypothesis

Significance level: 0.05

Confidence level: 0.95

t=7.4496

Decision: Reject the null hypothesis (H0)

t computed > t critical = 7.4496 > 2.776

Reject -2.776 ACCEPTED 2.776 Reject

C.V REGION C.V

Step 5: Summarize the results

There is a significant relationship between speed and breaking distance since the t value of 7.4496 is greater than
the critical value which is 2.776 based on the significance level of 0.05 and proportion of two tails. The value of r
suggests a strong positive relation between speed and breaking distance at alpha 0.05. That is the faster the speed;
the farther distance is needed to fully stop a vehicle.
3. A researcher conducted a study about missing person and he claim that on average, more minors than
adults are reported missing. The records are shown below for reference. Is there enough evidence to support
his claim at alpha 0.01? (Refer to our module, Indicate the steps using a P-Value Method: show the interval P

Adults: 31,364 34,478 36,937 35,946 38,209

Ho : There is insufficient evidence to support his claim at alpha 0.01

Ha : There is enough evidence to support his claim at alpha 0.01

levels of those attended pre-schooling and those who did not by randomly selected 50 seventh graders. If the
prealgebra achievement is independent of attending pre-school, then the proportions at each level should be
equal. Using the given table below, determine if there is an association between attending pre-school and
prealgebra achievement using confidence level of 95%. (Refer to our module, Indicate the steps using the

Step 1: State the hypotheses and identify the claim.

Ha : There is an association between attending pre-school and pre-algebra achievement. (dependent)

Using Symbols :

5. As an ecologist, you're interested in seeing if there's a relationship between the heights of trees and
its stem girth at alpha 0.05. The girth (in inches) of the trees was measured at 4.5 feet from the ground, and
the trees corresponding heights are shown below. Assuming that the data set are not normally distributed.

Step 1: State the hypotheses and identify the claim.

Ho= There is no relationship between the heights of the trees and its stem girths.
Ha≠ There is a relationship between the heights of the trees and its stem girths.

Using Symbols
Ho: µ= 0

1668.6 2270.7 1265.7
2684.1 2463.3 1570.2
Step 1: State the hypotheses and identify the claim.

Ho: There is no significant difference in mean bill amounts between three internet providers.
Ha: There is at least one significant difference in mean bill amounts between three internet providers. (claim)

Using symbols
Ho: μ1 =μ2=μ3
Ha: At least one mean is different from the others (claim)

Step 2: Find the critical value(s) from the appropriate table.

d.f.N. (degree of freedom of numerator) = k-1 = 3-1= 2
d.f.D. (degree of freedom of denominator) = N-k = 15-3= 12

The F value calculated is less than the Critical value

F calc < C.V. = 3.6771 < 3.89
Do not reject Ho

P value using online calculator = 0.0568

Step 5: Summarize the results (Conclusion)

Conclusion using critical value:

Since the F value calculated of 3.6771 is less than the critical value of 3.89 at significance level of 0.05, there
is not enough evidence to support the claim of the researcher that at least one of the means differs from the
others at alpha 0.05.

Conclusion using p value:

P value of 0.0568 is greater than significance level of 0.05.
P value > Alpha = 0.0568 > 0.05.
Do not reject Ho.

Since the p-value is greater than the 5% significance level, we conclude that there is no significant difference
in mean bill amounts between three internet providers.
