Topic Title

VOTER’S EDUCATION
Why should young people including myself, register to vote in the 2022 elections? Why

should we be actively involved in campaigns? It is because WE have a role to play, and

OUR VOTE MATTERS.

This pandemic has surfaced the deep-seated systemic issues in health, education,

transportation, and governance, as highlighted by the youth who tired of government's

lies and incompetence. Young Filipino voters may make a difference in next year's

national elections as we now comprise 52% of the total registered voters according to

Commission on Elections (Comelec) director James Jimenez. That's how significant the

youth vote is in the coming election. Out of that total, 31.41 million voters are in the

age group of 18-40 years old, classified as the youth vote. Remember President Duterte

won the presidency because of 16.6 million votes.

As youths, which make up a substantial proportion of the voting population, we have a

huge role to play in the upcoming election and that is to vote for competent and capable

leaders. It is important that as youth who are aware of what is happening in our society,

in our country, to practice our right to vote. Because in this way, we can vote for

leaders who will respond to the problems that our country is facing right now.

Young Filipinos composed 37 percent of the entire electorate. In 2022, more young

Filipinos will be eligible to cast their votes. With that, I am encouraging everyone to

support patriotic and progressive candidates who will really serve the public and not

themselves.
Be part of the change that we want to see in 2022. As Mahatma Ghandi said, “Be part

of the change you wish to see in the world.” In this case, let us be part of the change we

wish to see in our country. Let us use our collective power to decide on our fate. We

should not let other people decide for us. Let us not exchange our votes for 500 pesos,

because the FILIPINO PEOPLE IS WORTH MORE THAN THAT.

Bear this in mind, when WE REFUSE TO REGISTER TO VOTE for the upcoming

elections, IT IS NOT A SIGN OF PROTEST, but a SIGN OF DEFEAT. The 2022

NATIONAL Elections have not yet begun, and I strongly believe that WE- THE

FILIPINOS, HAVE A FIGHTING CHANCE TO WIN. REMEMBER WHEN WE

ELECT COMPETENT AND CAPABLE LEADERS THE ENTIRE COUNTRY IS

THE ONE WINNING. I love the quote of Harry Emerson Fosdick which one of the

speakers shared with us, it says, "Democracy is based upon the conviction that there

are extraordinary possibilities in ordinary people.” Indeed, there are

EXTRAORDINARY POSSIBILITIES IN ORDINARY PEOPLE like us and that

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
