RIZAL'S LIFE AND WORKS

WHAT IS THE
RIZAL LAW?
The Rizal Law, also known as RA
1425, mandates the study of Rizal's
life and works. This Republic Act
calls for an increased sense of
nationalism from the Filipinos during
a time of a dwindling Filipino
identity. The Republic Act was
signed by the President on June 12,
1956.
Is the teaching of Rizal’s Life
and Works course realistic
given the dangers and

sensitivities of literature as
means of communication in
learning nationalism,
WORKS

patriotism, and volunteerism?

To be honest, the law wasn't really that effective
and realistic in its purpose to achieve its goals.
Our deeper understanding of Rizal has been
blocked by our interest in such things in the
Internet. It is being prevented by our personal
interest especially we always focus on trivial
matter. If we are to talk about the dangers and
sensitivities of Rizal’s literatures, the sensitive
issues is about the church and its priests. That is
why the church opposes in the implementation of
Rizal law because they do not want the church's
reputation to be tarnished in the eyes of their
supporters or followers. But since this is a one of
the minor subjects taken up in college, it means
that we are old enough to know the truth and to
believe in our own understanding about the
topic.
In learning nationalism, patriotism and
volunteerism we need to know the truth, and
what really happened in the past, and the
only way to do it is by studying the rizal's
life and work even if there is sensitivies in
Rizal's literatures. Even that rizal's works
reveals the wrong doings of the church, it
still plays a big role in our history since he
gave us ideas what happened in the past,
how filipino's lived, how they are treated
and even how they fought the Spaniards.
That is why learning all of this will boost our
nationalism, patriotism and volunteerism.
WHY STUDY RIZAL'S LIFE AND
WORKS?

The teaching of Jose Rizal’s life, works, and writings is mandated by

Republic Act 1425, also known as the Rizal Law, since it is a law, it must
be followed. The person who sponsored this law was Senator Jose P.
Laurel, he said that since Rizal was the founder of Philippine nationalism
and has contributed much to the current standing of this nation, it is only
right that the youth as well as all the people in the country know about
and learn to imbibe the great ideals for which he died.
The Rizal Law, enacted in 1956,
seeks to accomplish the following
goals:
• To rededicate the lives of youth to the • To pay tribute to our national hero for
ideals of freedom and nationalism, for devoting his life and works in shaping the
which our heroes lived and died Filipino character

• To gain an inspiring source of patriotism • To recognize the importance of Rizal’s

• To encourage the application of such • To develop an appreciation and deeper

HOW
IMPORTANT ARE
LITERACY
CRITICISMS IN
THE STUDY OF
RIZAL’S LIFE
AND WORKS?
Literary Criticism in Rizal's life and works is
important since it is an effective way to
become more realistic and absorb more
information by reading and giving
constructive criticism. Literary Criticism in
Rizal's life and works will help us to have a
better sense of understanding, judgements
about the literature itself, and to study all
the ideas or information from different point
of views without making it bias. It is also
important in the way that we can express
our opinion with supported evidence and
analyze the given information in the life and
works of Rizal.
IF GIVEN A CHANCE TO
DECONSTRUCT ONE OF
RIZAL’S WRITTEN WORKS
(BOTH WELL-KNOWN AND
OBSCURE), WHAT WOULD IT
BE AND WHAT IS ITS
RELATION TO THE ANALYSIS
AND UNDERSTANDING OF
NATION- BUILDING?
If I were given a chance to deconstruct one of Rizal's
work, then it would be Noli Me Tangere. It is because I
want to understand all the relationship between the
information and its true meaning. I want to analyze it in
order to find if there are some assumptions inside it,
and to find out if there is something that still not
uncovered. I want to understand the true meaning of
this novel and understand how the Filipino people lives
during Spanish colonial period. Its relation to analysis
and understanding to nation building is that if we
deconstruct this novel, it gives as all the information we
need from the past, how Filipino lives, what happened
from the past, how they are treated by the Spaniards,
and what are the wrong doings of the churches. By
NOLI ME TANGERE analyzing all of this information, it will boost our
nationalism, as we understand our history will lead us
to build our nation and to have a unity.
