II. Project Summary

In this Physics Investigatory Project, the group proposes to create a Hydraulic JCB.
They believe that this prototype will help the country whenever typhoons occur. If this will be
created in a larger form, this could help reduce damages and other losses in the community. They
will be doing this prototype using simple materials, such as cardboard, syringe, glue, popsicle
sticks, etc. This project will take the team around 3 weeks to create to ensure a great quality &
best result as well, and it will cost the team around ₱1200 to ₱1300 only.

III. Project Background

In our Physics Investigatory Project, we have developed a Hydraulic JCB as a prototype
that measures pressure by pascal’s law. Understanding pascal’s law which states that pressure
applied to an enclosed fluid will be transmitted without a change in magnitude to every point of
the fluid and to the walls of the container, we can manipulate it and apply it in a prototype which
is the Hydraulic JCB. As we all know here in the Philippines there has passed a typhoon that
caused major floods, and waters flowing out of riversides and rift rafts. By developing a
hydraulic JCB in a larger and real-life size (Excavator) we can use it in widening rivers in
preparation for possible floodings in the future, to be able to minimize damages, losses, and
victims in typhoons. We started the idea of making the hydraulic JCB as our prototype when our
teacher in physics sent a YouTube video that gave us an idea of how it works and making it our
main project, helped us realize that even though it is already given, the hydraulic JCB’s are really
a big help in the community. The making of our prototype is going to be held in different places
but for the majority of it, we are going to meet up at Yheanzie’s house to be able to accomplish
it.

IV. Project Objectives

The objectives of our project are:

1. To be able to make a plan in making the prototype effectively, while thinking of the possible
designs to make it better.

2. To be able to understand the concept of the prototype, and how it works, while acknowledging
the laws of physics around it.

3. To be able to make a digital representation of the prototype

4. To be able to buy materials for the making of the prototype while budgeting the cost.

5. To be able to make making use of pascal’s law and understand its concept in the prototype.

5. To be able to know the concept of the formula of pascal’s law on how to get the measured
quantity, the pressure.

6. To be able to apply it in the prototype with the help of the liquids syringes and hoses that are
bought.
7. To be able to construct the body of the prototype solidly so that it may not break easily.

8. To be able to organize and join all parts, concepts, and structures together to be able to build
the final prototype model.

9. To be able to present the prototype physically and successfully to the school and teachers.

10. To be able to make a tarpaulin background for our Physics Investigatory Project for the
presentation at school.

B. Project Deliverables
The first set of deliverables consists of the pre-assembled parts of the hydraulic JCB that
must be put together to create the JCB.

The deliverables consist of the following:

 Base – it is the foundation of the hydraulic JCB.

 Stem – allows the hydraulic JCB to bend.
 Forearm – will make the hydraulic JCB’s bucket lower or higher.
 Digging Bucket – the part that scoops up objects.
 Glue – will hold the sticks to the parts so that they won’t fall off.
 Sticks – will secure and join the parts together.
 Silicone Hoses – used to transport liquid from the syringes of the controller to the
hydraulic JCB’s syringes.
 Controller - used to regulate and control the hydraulic JCB’s parts.
 Platform with wheels – it is where the whole prototype is placed.
 Syringes-The syringes in each part and the controller, as well as all of the part’s precut
holes, are already made, just like the popsicle sticks in the bucket. And last but not least
the cable ties that are already applied to each part with the syringe. The parts are then
already created in accordance with the client’s requests (colors and drawings).
C. Project Risk Management

 RISKS

o Potential lack of funds to buy the necessary materials

o Possible failed attempts of constructing the prototype successfully physically.

 PLANS TO CONTROL THE RISKS

o Learn and understand the process of making the prototype effectively and
efficiently.

o Ask help from our parents for the funds and materials if the funds are short.

 THE RISK'S LIKELIHOOD OF OCCURRING

o The likelihood of the risk of a potential lack of funds to buy the necessary
materials occurring depends on whether members have the money for the
materials or not.

o The likelihood of the risk of possible failed attempts of constructing the prototype
successfully physically occurring may also vary on whether the members put
enough effort to study how to construct and function the prototype or not.

 THE RISK'S IMPACT ON THE PROJECT AND SCHOOL

o The risks that are mentioned affect the school in the sense that they will lose one
group that is involved in the PIP if not controlled because if it occurs the
prototype will fail.
o The risks that are mentioned affect the project directly because when there are not
enough funds the materials for the prototype would be lacking, and with failed
attempts, the team would have difficulty in time and in money.
